Default Pathetic

Just heard a feature on the radio stating that London will not be putting up christmas lights this year, they will be called Winter lights!?

So not to offend any other religions!

Where does this all end!?

This country is becoming a joke, we can't celebrate St.George's day, Christmas... what next? Easter?

It OUR country ffs, if they don't like it, they can go back.

A lot of these stupid ideas are dreamt up by incompetent people, mostly with obscure job titles, working in local government obsessed with political correctness and keeping minorities happy. In fact what they are actually doing is alienating people more, damaging race relations and adding support to extremist parties like the BNP.

I say let us be proud of our country and history and celebrate Christmas without meddling politically correct numpties poking their noses in.

Well, I agree we can become too politically correct but remember that Christmas is actually just a date assigned in Roman times to accomodate existing Pagan festivities in Britain. In fact, they attached it to the winter festival.

No-one knows when Jesus was supposed to have been born, but apparently shepherds didn't watch their flocks in the fields by night any later than October because it was too cold!

Let's face it, it doesn't really have that much to do with religion anymore for most people.

Exactly, things like this are going to cause yet more divides between our communities. It's just every little thing nowadays is taken in the wrong frame of mind and people are forgetting the true meaning of being English!

Christmas is OUR tradition, OUR celebration but i like to think of it as a time where all religions and people can celebrate together but this is doing completley the opposite and as you say, it will only add to the BNP's cause.

If we went into Pakistan for example and started ranting and raving about wanting things changed, in reality, we would get beheaded. If we then went and made Muslims change there relision and there celebrations to accomodate us, then there would be pandemonium and uproar!

St George's Day - The flag affends ethnicities.

If we bring racism into it, it only works one way and thats against white people in my opinion.

Aye, that's the problem, ROB. It isn't religious really anymore but yet they still kick up a fuss about things like Christmas Lights.

It isn't about that.

It's about the fact that everything we once called a way of life is now being scraped to accomodate people who wouldn't accomodate us.

I read somewhere about a guy in Yorkshire who used to wear a small St. George's Cross tie pin, and his employer asked him to remove it because it might offend the non-English people working in the company.

Things like that are turning ordinary British tolerant people into racists, because we feel persecuted. I wholeheartedly agree with what Chris said. We don't go to other countries and try to make them more British, so why should foreigners settling here expect us to adapt?

Another thing is.. the foreigners who settle here probably don't want us to change, but the govt. sends out the wrong message, and makes us think that they do, therefore creating race divides.

In Birmingham a couple of years ago, they had to call Christmas 'Winterval' if my memory serves me correctly Ridiculous. Most people who celebrate Christmas in this country aren't bothered about the religioius part of it anyway.

Going OTT with policitical correctness causes more problems than it solves anyway. I remember reading about a drama teacher who wanted to take her class to see a stage production of Romeo and Juliet, and was told that she would not be allowed to because it was 'overtly heterosexual'.

Haven't these people got anything to worry about?

I remember that, and it does create more problems then the pathetic ones they try to 'help'.

There was a debate then but it wasn't in the same context as it is today. It has gotten worse and will continue to do so.

Fundamentally the government are the ones to blame, simply for the fact that they do not have a clue! They simply look to please the minority rather then the majority, which is wrong.

You wonder why people like Captain hook and Bin Laden's right hand men eventually come and take refuge in out GREAT country when you hear utter nonsence like this! They know there safe behind laws that OUR government have put forward.

Now forgive me if im wrong, but the government are the voice of the whole of Britain, not just for Muslims, Jews, Hindus or Sikhs. About time they started to care about there actual residents rather then the immagrants.

Wrong, Very Wrong.

You've already been banned from the forum before - you're drinking in the last-chance saloon.

Another example of PC gone mad. Some pre-schools are getting the kids to sing 'Baa baa Rainbow Sheep', because the staff think that 'Baa baa Black Sheep' could be seen as racist.

Really, all this is doing is making any racial divides that are there, even worse than they already are. How many non-Christians actually get offended by Christmas lights?
