Default Size Zero

It creeps it's way into most threads, and yet doesn't have a thread of it's own.

Discuss Size Zero...

Very disturbing Linda, I feel that the whole size 0 thing is very worrying. I hate the thought that my child would look at these people and think that she would like to look like them, or that in fact that is how she "should" look.

I agree with you Sunny. As a mother, I think the trend is very worrying indeed. My daughter is naturally quite slim at the moment. She's almost 10. She has a huge appetite and eats a good variety of stuff. I'm hoping she will always have the desire for food, and I wont ever have to worry about her starving herself!

Funnily enough she was talking about diets the other day and she said: "I wouldn't like to be on a diet because then I wouldn't be able to get cake and that would be harsh!" and a look of sheer horror came over her face. I had to laugh. The stuff she comes out with is priceless sometimes.

Yeah, I know. I mean, there's nothing wrong with being thin, but ffs.. that takes the biscuit.. (or maybe she ought to take a biscuit, and a sammich while she's there, and not follow it up with the obligatory 2-finger dessert...)

Here's a good one I found though.. Nicole Richie is actually doing the right thing and putting a wee bit of weight back on...She looks nice on the left, even though she's still thin,, she isn't sick looking.

Those pics are so wrong. They look like they have just been freed
from a concentration camp.

I don't know anybody who would aspire to look like that, so how does it help to sell clothes? My mind is literally boggerling.

Fashion houses have the belief that garments look better the smaller they are, and they like their models to be thin to accomodate this. Models at the bottom rung of the ladder therefore aspire to be stick thin to get contracts. It's a stupid trend really, but models know a career in fashion can be quite lucrative.

God ANOTHER thread about this? It's getting very boring, but it seems you lot don't tire of moaning about it..

Anyway this is ridiculous. The first picture is disguisting, but it is PHOTOSHOPPED to make her look like a skeleton. I don't have the original, but have seen it and she is just a normal thin girl. The second girl is skinny, but she is a particularly thin model, and I'm sure she's naturally like that. All models are skinny thats why they are models.

BAZG the picture you posted i don't know whether you are trying to prove a point or anything but that is so obviously altered that i don't know how anyone didnt notice. That's Gisele Bundchen i think - and she is skinny but healthy model who does Victoria's Secret, watch some of their shows.

This girl is one of my favourite models, not all models are size 0 as the mdeia wants you all to believe she is a uk 6 and shes beautiful

Anyway I'm honestly getting sick of debating about it I'm not going to again. Models have always been skinny and if you don't like it tough

I think that as parents we have a right to worry and debate this till we are blue in the face. Every day I worry about my very image consicous 13 nearly 14 year old. She is naturally slim at 5'6 and a size 8ish. She does look for role models in the entertainment industry as do most girls her age. I like to think that she is self aware enough to not think that women that look as repulsive as that are actually how she should aspire to look.

I think it good that this sort of issue is being debated...... it is a forum and therefore we can discuss whatever we feel like.

The size zero issue make me very made. I know not all models are skeleton thin but there are a few, having looked through model agency's websites (surely they wouldn't have been altered!!!!!) who look shocking thin!

Now what sort of an example are we setting to young girls????

Cause or effect? Your point is confused.

Were they skinny first, or skinny because of being a model? Why SHOULD they be skinny? - it's because people like you are in the mindset that if you're bigger than a size 0 (99% of the population) - you're too big to show off clothes.
Are you saying all of these women are naturally like this?
Do you think it's right their alter their diet and manipulate their metabolism JUST to please the business?

Also, I'm confused as to why designers prefer anorexic models. Not many people seem to like it, they look rank, and they make the clothes look drab.... ?

Where is the other thread about it? There was a post about whether boys prefer skinny or curvy girls, except there's a difference between skinny, and anorexic.
And many of us are concerned about the impression it's making on young girls, it's a very real and serious issue that NEEDS to be discussed.

A size 6????? You do realise that the average size of a UK woman is 14 dont you? It makes me mad that people consider a size 6 to be a perfect weight.

I was a size 6 when I was 17, I felt pressurised to be thin so I starved myself! I went through years and years of obsessing about my weight and trying to go back to that size, when I realised that it just not healthy. I'm happy and healthy the weight that I am now..... and it aint a size 6!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gemma, since your predominant argument is that many of these pictures have been altered. I introduce you to:

Eliana Ramos.... Same girl as this:

The pictures were not altered. She's now dead, because of anorexia nervosa.
