17/10/09 X Factor Live Show 2 {Divas Week}

Week two is upon us and with it brings a ridiculous theme in Diva Week. Yes that's right, a whole week dedicated to the worlds most overrated and bland performers, such as Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey.
First up was Lucie Jones, singing Whitney Houstons How Will I Know. Last week I was disappointed in her and tonight I was the same. Maybe I was expecting too much from her but I just don't think she's delivered anything special thus far in the live shows. Saying that, tonight proved that she was versatile and she does really have a great voice. She's going to be safe for another week, and hopefully she impresses next week. 5/10.
We then went to Olly Murs, as he sang Tina Turners A Fool In Love, and woah. He isn't the best singer, but I'd go as far as saying he is the best performer, and those pelvic thrusts were very entertaining! He's going to stay, and at this moment, I'd put a fiver on him winning the thing. 8/10.
After the break, we were given Miss Frank, the three piece formed at bootcamp who performed Whitney's All I Need, and despite putting on a decent performance, was absolutely slaughtered by Simon. I got what he said about them being a group, but they weren't bad atall and I could definitely see them as recording artists. They are almost certainly for the bottom two unfortunately, which I also think could see them going home. 7/10.
Next up was Rachel Adedeji, last weeks bottom two survivor. After her VT, I was expecting something major and powerful right up until the first note of Beyoncés If I Were A Boy, but needless to say I was left disappointed. She wasn't good atall, strained notes and out of tune all over the place she was by far the worst competitor thus far. Despite this she got rave reviews from Dannii and Cheryl, which may just be enough to save her from the sing off. 2.5/10.
After the break was Joe McElderry, the geordie that wowed everyone last week, and as he begun Whitney's Where Do Broken Hearts Go? it was evident that a repeat was imminent. Like Simon said, the performance was literally note perfect, although for me Joe's voice does become a bit "tinny" and his vibrato is a bit too much. Nevertheless, awesome performance from Joe, one that will most likely keep him safe.9/10.
The next Over 25 was Danyl Johnson, the utterly overpraised and overhyped moron. Well usually, but singing another Whitney song, I Didn't Know My Own Strength, he was actually quite good. Still can't warm to him though, but he wasn't bad, meaning he wont be leaving any time soon. 6/10.
The next contestant is everything I should hate. A pretty boy in the name of Lloyd, with a non existant vocal range attempting to sing Leona Lewis' classic Bleeding Love. Strangely enough, however, I didn't hate it. Despite Simon and co not liking it, I rather liked the breezy verses, and yes, the chorus wasn't good at all, but it wasn't that bad. I think he'll stay for another few weeks yet anyways. 6.5/10.
Break time over, and the last of the groups were John and Edward. Singing Oops I Did It Again by Britney, it was everything you could imagine. Camp, leathertastic and of course cringey. But it was entertaining! They can't sing for toffee, but I, like the judges, find myself wanting to watch them more and more. I hope, and think they'll be staying tonight. 3.5/10
The final boy this week was Glasgow's Rikki, and he took on a huge song, singing Aretha Franklins R.E.S.P.E.C.T. Was it good? No. Was it horrific? No. But that's Rikki in a nutshell. He's never horrificly bad, but he isn't (and I don't think will ever be) any good. It was way too big a song for him to sing, and I don't think he's that safe tonight either. 4/10
The penultimate performance came from Jamie Archer, and he sung the only Christina Aguilera song tonight, Hurt. It was a good choice, and an amazing performance. I think he could be the real darkhorse of the show, in the way that everythings about Danyl atm, but he could seriously steal it from him. A great performance and will keep him safe most definitely. 8.5/10.
And the final performance came from Dannii Minogue, and Stacey Solomon. Everybody knows that I can't stand Stacey, and was confused as to how Etta James' song At Last could be classed as a "Diva" song, but heck it was good. My favourite performance of the night, to my dismay, I found that she looked a hell of a lot more comfortable on the stage, and sang so much better, unlike the Coldplay mess last week. Safe for sure. 9.5/10.
So altogether, the show wasn't as good as last weeks, but a few standouts in the name of Stacey, Jamie and Joe. Who should be worrying tonight? Miss Frank and Rachel Adedeji for sure, with Rikki Loney a potential eliminee.
