Well done to all for making it this far.
Brona: 1. Emotion - I love this picture. It's arty, it's cute, it's different, it's a great aesthetic, and impressive skills (happening to catch this was a coup). Well done! 2. Improvement - This is my least favourite improvement photo, mainly because I think there was little to improve upon. I like your second shot but much prefer the original. 3. Sense (touch) - a great idea behind this shot, and it's executed quite well too. GypsyGoth: 1. Emotion - I like how simple this shot is, but I think I would have liked something from, either a person or animal, that CAN display emotion - though this is quite cute. 2. Improvement - probably the best improvement shot. I love the colours, the quality, the contrast in focus between the fore/background. 3. Sense - taste: probably the most difficult sense there was to capture on a photo, but you've again done very well - unfortunately I'm eating apple crumble at the moment and as such don't particularly want a strawberry right now, but at other times it'd make my mouth water :p Nate: 1. Emotion - Well it's simple, and to me very 'emo' which I guess fits the bill. But I don't know. I think it could be better. 2. Improvement - again, like Brona's, I think this is the opposite to an improvement. The first is much better, I'm afraid. 3. Sense; sight- I really love this idea. The glasses and 'reading' elements capture how important sight is perfectly, and importantly, it's not a bad shot. Best of luck to all 3 of you! |

Emotion The use of black and white gives it a good 1950's feel, as does the fact it is on a slope. The only thing letting this shot down is the focus. As for the emotion it only just scrapes in. Improvement The original theme was What is Life. This image fails to convey that, and what is more, it would have been improved if the depth of field had been pushed. The flower in the foreground should have been more in focus than the background one. I'm afraid this one totally failed to make the grade. The Sense Touch This is also disappointing. The fingers in the foreground are soft focus as are the other fingers in the background. It does not speak to me of touch. Another clear fail. GypsyGoth Emotion No! The bland expression on the horse dolls do not show love. Positioning them like they are in this shot, does not speak to me of love. On the technical front, it could have been made better with a fil in flash, or even a reflector to lighten the foreground. Improvement As a pure picture of undergrowth, it is marginal at best, again the depth of field needed to be pushed. As for the original subject, it does not indicate that at all. The Sense Taste Another near miss I am afraid. Starting with the technical side, this image is bleached. The flash may have been to close and direct. Sometimes with still life, you may have the luxury of not using flash. Also better lighting would have been a good alternative. As for the subject, sorry but I would have thought a strawberry half would have been better than a whole one. Nate Emotion For a simple idea, and in black and white this seems to hit the all the points. Well done on this one Improvement Close but no cigar. It would have been better if the C of the cold tap was more in focus as well, plus I would like to have seen the whole basin. The Sense Sight A good idea well executed. It makes it crystal clear what this is about. |

Brona 1. Emotion - I think overall it's a lovely photo and portrays the theme well. 2. Improvement - I think you had the hardest photo to improve and afraid the cobweb one was better but still I like the photo. 3. Sense - I like how the guitar goes into darkness and I like the idea. Overall - I think your photos have been great from week one, your best was definitely the 'What Is Life' one and I personally think you deserved to come this far. GypsyGoth 1. Emotion - It's certainly different Claudia, I love the idea and it made me laugh. 2. Improvement - I think you certainly improved on an already great photo, I think it's brilliant. 3. Sense - Not a fan of strawberries my self but I love how you used the white background to make it stand out, is a nice photo. Overall - I think you've been strong throughout the competition, I thought your photos in the first week were the best and from then I thought you would be in the final, you deserve it. Nate 1. Emotion - I don't know why but I love this photo, it's simple yet great. 2. Improvement - I personally don't think you improved with this photo, maybe if the water was running like in the first photo it might have been better? 3. Sense - I love the idea you used and you pulled it off well, great photo. Overall - At the start I didn't think you would get this far but week after week you've improved and I think you also deserve to be in the final. Good luck everyone :) |
