Artist Of The Day:Au Revoir Simone Chosen By: hennessy Tomorrows Choice:Shasown?
...is a poem by Patrick Kavanagh (1904 - 1967)
The thread title if successful will be changed. I like this forum and would like to chat about music but it's hard to sidestep the Girls Aloud, Lady Gaga, Cole, etc appreciation threads. This is like another thread on here called..'best part, song of the day' or something like that but this is more focused to the other posters on here. Like many youtube vids posted on here, many people will ignore them for the more mainstream ones, while other will watch and try to take away something from it. This thread is for the more discerning posters to dissect and elaborate what makes it good and what if anything failed. If I may I'll choose a song and for the sake of order, Enid (I hope) will post one tomorrow and she in turn will suggest another poster for the next day. Any song from any genre. A 'music' club if you like. Any one can join as long as you're willing to listen to the song and construct a valid point. Then again this might bomb |
You're right. Most posters will probably skip this, but if anyone out there has an open mind, please contribute.
Anyway, Pantera - never really been too keen. Granted, I haven't listened to enough of their stuff, but from what I've heard, it hasn't piqued my interest too much. If you're willing to recommend a couple of albums, I'd happily give 'em a listen. May change my mind about 'em. Any metal that I usually listen to has to be the very aggressive stuff. Anal Cvnt, Decapitated, Nile. Stuff like that. |
That particular sound isn't my cup of tea, but I can't find any fault in the playing of the song. Really tight band and the lead singers voice is quality -tender and aggressive. Worth listening to just for the solo and high pitched singing in the final third.
|
Was definitely under the impression I wouldn't like Pantera. Hmm.
I rather like the riff in the chorus. It's overall pretty good...the music video is pretty cheesy though :p that is to say the black and white cemetery bits. |

This is prob one of the softest songs from them.
The one most accessable. They toured alot which made them sound tight. and the reason the vid is crap is that most metal vid budgets get drunk Check out 'Walk' for further listening |
Haha yeah, a lot of metal band videos aren't complete without the cheese factor. This one isn't too bad but some of 'em are just atrocious. In a good way, of course. ;)
Edit - oh, and I'll give them albums a listen to, thanks. :) |
It didn't really appeal to me to be honest, and they are not a band that I would normally choose to listen to. I like songs with a meaning though, and with certain songs I like to look up the lyrics while I am listening to the song. And I suppose this track was to do with the loss of someone.
"And when she died I should've cried and spared myself some pain.... You left me incomplete All alone as the memories still remain" Maybe it might grow on me after a few plays, but I doubt it. Good idea for a thread though. |
i'd like to join this, no one will suggest me has the next poster though:P
This song isn't my type of music, but i really like the riff, and its good:) |
Thanks
On second thoughts I should have picked a stronger track but oh well. Can't wait to listen to other peoples choices and maybe find a new artist. Please try 'Walk' which I think is a lot stronger and Twilight doesn't stop you from commentating on any Vids |
I'll probably post some "alternative" hip-hop or something tomorrow. I think hip-hop is incredibly underrated right now.

Mos Def. Getting into "The Bug" too.
I do like more mainstream stuff as well. Dizzee Rascal, Tech N9ne and M.I.A. |
Asher Roth
La Di Da is my favourite hip hop track right now |

I implore you please check out 'dr. octagonecologyst' by Doctor Octagon. The maddest, smooth surreal rythms ever with scratching by DJ Q-Bert. Incredible |

Crack on without me.
My team Fulham is playing for next 45 mins. Will change title once you choose song. ps Ty Cara |
Okay, here goes. This first one I've been listening to for a while. I think it's great and the video is fantastic. I posted it a while ago on here, but I don't think anyone bothered to listen to it, so now you have to. Oh and just because I am nice, Twilight can post a song or two next time.
Baloji (feat. Konono N°1) - "Karibu Ya Bintou" Bassnectar - "Snakecharmer" Gorilla Zoe (feat. Santogold and M.I.A.) - "Get It Up" |
Only checked out the 1st song yet due to the shenanigans I got to go through to watch Youtube (download and watch thru' wmc)
Baloji (feat. Konono N°1) - "Karibu Ya Bintou" is feckin immense, totally immerse you into the dusty sidestreet ofthe congo. From the onset with the funky guitar and then the heavily distorted guitar overlay it sounded convoluted but worked incredibly well. The vid was also great, as it seemed you had an inside look at their world. All in all will be digging further from this artist (wish I could understand french). Bassnectar - "Snakecharmer" Like the drum sample which sounds familiar with a nice asian hook throughout, would've have prefered a climax or a deviation but overall very good. New Santogold (Feat. M.I.A. & Gorilla Zoe) – Get It Up Solid Santogold tune with a great contrabution from M.I.A. and Gorilla Zoe. M.I.A, she really sounds good in this and I can't wait for the new album. |
