One has to wonder why Mr Clary picked on Brian and why he is apparently so rattled by Brian in particular.

The other TV presenters he mentions, including himself are all in their 40s or 50s, its ungratious of him to criticise the younger generation for trying to make their mark. The Great British public will decide who they want to watch on the TV.

I disagree. I don't think JC is thinking of the media as a whole but his own career which might have flourished much more had he not made a stupid comment many years ago.
The piece reads to me as an older man, jealous of the upcoming young generation. I am a similar age to Mr Clary but recognise that in all professions the young must be trained in the job and the older generation recognise that fact.

I don't understand your second point in the context of this particular piece.

On the one hand Brian is accused of imitating Graham Norton, in this piece he is accused of imitating Julian Clary, poor Brian, all the while he is just trying to be himself.

I don't think the piece is harsh on Brian at all. It is harsh on Julian himself if anything, who seems to want the media to be dominated by the three men listed who may not appeal to everyone's taste. The media is like every other industry, a natural level will be found.

I think Julian Clary's act is tired now. He has worn thin the same jokes and gags and now he is less-than-amusing. Maybe that's why he has become bitter and angry towards the up-and-coming talent on our screens. He can probably feel his popularity waning, and is looking for someone to blame for it.

Sometimes you have to admit that you have done all you can, and it's time to hang up your hat. I personally don't find Mr Clary amusing now. I saw him the other night on Jack Dee's show, and he was struggling with the same material he has been using since the 80s. Move on with the times Julian, or else give it up and leave it to someone who can keep up with the pace of modern comedy.

I can't understand why there has to be any limit of gay people on tv,surely there is enough room for whoever wants to be on tv to be on tv.
I think I would understand more if he was in direct competition with Brian but as far as I'm aware Brian does totally different things on tv anyway.
I can't believe he classes himself in the same class as Paul O'Grady and Graham Norton either:shocked:

The other night on Jack Dee's show was the first I have seen JC in a long time. I agree. There is no need for him to feel the need to compete with the others, but if he can't churn out quality comedy, then I reckon he ought to just give it up, and retire gracefully.

I certainly dont think there should be a limit on any one sexuality or colour or sex.

Reading between the lines from Clary, he seems to be pointing out that gay people are chosen over straight people much more than ever. Whether this is true or not, I dont know- Im not in the media.

I think the bottom line here is (and no pun intended) that we find the whole "camp" thing amusing, when it's done right. For so long, it was taboo on telly to act homosexual, and now it's liberating that people can just be who they are and it amuses us.

Camp humour can be funny like all other styles of comedy, but other times it can grate, like Graham Nortons 'act'.
