Is this really the Big Brother we wanted?

We are all different, each one of us in our own unique way. As a species we have done so many amazing things and in turn some very bad things. Anyway enough of the pre-amble lets get to the point.

We come toward the end of another BB but one that I think that in time will definitely stand out as one of the most contentious. Things have been said that have upset people, things have happened that have driven most of us to distraction but why so this particular series? I think this one is unique in that we have never had such a large collection of dis-likable housemates under one roof. It took me quite a while to single anyone out as favorites and even now I don't have any single favorite, but those I and most people seem to like are down to Deana, Adam and Luke A. Why? Because they possess that particular human quality that most or the majority identify with. Common decency. They are not without their faults as we all are but at least they have quality of being. It isn't rocket science for me, as the saying goes good manners cost nothing and it's the easiest thing in the world to be reasonable with one another. Yet we have endured a despicable bunch this time in, Conor, Becky, Caroline, Ashleigh, Arron, Shievonne and Luke S.

Sara and Scott don't escape criticism either and are firmly in my dislike corner although not in the same category as the others. They're just hangers on who have shifted like the beads on an abacus whenever it suited them. It was such a pity we lost some potentially strong housemates, who given time could have made this series a lot more comfortable to watch than some of the nastiness we have had to witness.

Anyway the final approaches and the remaining insiders are now in our gun-sights apart from Mr S who will definitely be first out on final night closely followed by Sara. I'm glad good is prevailing and we should get another worthy winner, at least in comparison to what could have won it. Yet I believe the future is bleak for BB as I think they are destroying what it was all about in the first place. I don't think someone finishing in seventh with 50K is something anyone in their wildest dreams could have envisaged. Letters from home - visits from friends and family - family members nominating etc etc etc
Unless it gets back to basics, the original formula and a more meaningful selection housemate wise, it's screwed and in turn we will be also.

One of the best posts I have seen, interesting read and right on the button (oops sorry poor sad deluded Luke S )

I find it difficult to understand why they deliberately chose (for the majority of hms this year) the most horrible people they could find. Thank crunchie they put Luke A and Deana in, the fact that are both still there goes some way towards restoring my faith.

Amen to that Becker *salutes

Great post - I do wonder where C5 are trying to take our beloved program to - this series has been very strange and fairly lame imo.

sampvt 08-08-2012 01:19 PM

My only reservation on your post, which incidently was really good, would be that this year the production team put someone in there that they thought would be the perfect asian HM. What they failed to see was who she really was, someone who has made the series all her own for all the wrong reasons and BB lost total control.

Excellent post, though to suggest a possible interpretation, it may have been in one sense pure bad luck for the producers that they underestimated the potential of the mean and nasty crew to band together and strategically eliminate some very promising characters early in the run.

Having said that, I hope they will recover more of the original formula next year. I keep hearing how much better that was, and as a latecomer to the show I am very curious to see what it all evolved from.

Totally agree with the OP. This has been one of the worst series for sure, I wanted Lauren to win but only because I found her marginally more likeable than most of the others - in another series I wouldn't have really cared for her much at all. Adam has probably been the nicest guy overall but even then you can see that he's after the cash and quickly goes to sit on the fence when arguments arise.

Last year's series was very different - they were a far more likeable bunch on the whole and the atmosphere was far better for it, yes there were arguments and issues but it was FUN. This series has entirely lacked FUN.

Same old tired twists and turns, tedious tasks - yawn. How about next time just putting more "normal" people in there? You don't need to always put in the same mix of 2 or 3 gay guys, some trans-sexuals, models, minorities etc etc. Just find a bunch of reasonable fun people whatever their background! They've sucked the life out of the show for sure this year.

BB Did let the "gangs" take over too much this year, other years there have been more all-up-for-evictions and late-comers to the house. The all-up evictions help weed out the really nasty parties but it showed this year when it didn't happen that they take control over the nicer, more passive people.

Its rumoured that BB have asked me and Chuff to go in next year, we would shake these younguns up and give you something to watch. lol

Mitnick 08-08-2012 01:41 PM

I think BB did a good job. I liked the daily tasks and the way they played the contestants off against each other.
But, some of the more interesting characters were voted off too early.

BULLYING :nono:

Mumbles 08-08-2012 01:48 PM

I agree with the OP, it's been a pretty shoddy bunch this year. I've not missed a single person who's been evicted this year and it took me ages to even got close to picking a favourite (Adam btw, best of a bad bunch, unphased by most things, reasonable, measured, controlled, a decent guy basically, especially in comparison with most of the others). I don't think this series has ever been boring, like some previous years, but it's not generally the kind of entertainment I enjoy.

Like the OP I also wish they'd get back to basics - no outside visitors, no outside interference, no contact with friends and family, no personal/secret tasks, etc. just a diverse group of people with something to say for themselves living together for 10 weeks, taking part in weekly tasks to earn their food. BB used to treat everyone equally, and gave everyone the same chance in there but that is no longer true. Now it's more like an indoor version of Get Me Out Of Here with added bitchiness.

Aw Jords, how can you say that. I love you and you just pour scorn on my idea. With my looks and quick wit and Chuffs unbelievable charm and pleasing personality, we would have them cleaning every morning, no swearing, cooking lessons, no sex unless me and chuff can watch and nobody allowed to stay sober at night except me cause i dont drink. The house would be like a new pin and all the HM,s would thank us for showing them the error of their ways.

I am only teasing lol
And I well thought that was gonna say 'no sex unless me and chuff get it on' :joker:

sampvt 08-08-2012 01:59 PM

I expend more energy having a dump than Scott does in his entire day, dont tell me about being old. Me and Chuff would have LF reinstated becasue nobody would dare miss a moment and ch5 would re write the rule book. God forbid, now you got me thinking, lol.

Mitnick 08-08-2012 02:02 PM

I can see a BB with walking frames and commode chairs. People with dementia who meet new housemates everyday.
Just Kidding....

The younger people just seem more stupid and are easier to manipulate.
