thesheriff443 30-01-2013 10:49 AM

its a game show true, but if housemates are acting then its no longer reality.

TV isn't reality, it's a completely different entity altogether, and a reality TV show is even further away from reality.

Housemates acting up and playing a game in order to create talking points is beneficial, sitting on the fence, uttering no words over the course of the series and floating into the final may be a standard example of 'oooh yay you're so real' but it's ultimately dull and brand-damaging.

the whole concept of bigbrother is people being themself's take that away and its no longer big brother.

No it isn't, the whole concept of Big Brother is filming a bunch of strangers living in a house 24/7. There's nothing in the rules about 'being yourself' and people have questioned for years whether housemates actually are being themselves, whether it is possible to be your true self and indeed whether it's better to be your true self or not.

In this instance, Speidi playing their villainous characters made for intriguing and discussion-worthy TV. Take that away and we're left with a sh*t series, ratings in tatters and a damaged brand. Again, why a real Big Brother fan would wish that on the show, I don't know...

Agree sheriff , that is correct

Slevin 30-01-2013 12:41 PM

we always hear how some of these people when they get out say they couldnt or wouldnt fully be themselves in there since the beginning.

Kizzy 30-01-2013 12:42 PM

Milking the last bit of publicity... aw....

Jack_ 30-01-2013 12:44 PM

Spencer also raised an interesting and fairly valid point on Loose Women this afternoon as well - can anyone really be their true selves? Like fully. To what extent with cameras on you 24/7 can you actually be the person you are at home?

Erm...Razor tweeted the picture and Speidi made no comment of their own about it so I don't see how they're 'milking' anything.

Ammi 30-01-2013 12:54 PM

..that's the thing really Jack..with celebrities they have a public persona and Speidi's is to be the 'couple people love to hate'...so I guess that's what they give the public...I think more of the real them started to show through toward the end though and they came across well on Loose Women..the interview was just a bit short, I think....

wendywillow 30-01-2013 01:49 PM

i love it when the hg's get along after the show. truth is we only saw 35 minutes out of 24 hours everyday so we really dont know much about their relationships in the house.

How the actual hell is that milking publicity?! Its a dinner at frankies house, not a magazine interview or tv show FFS

To be fair, the concept of Big Brother is to lock people in a house for 24 hours a day with no contact with the outside world and see how they react, it's a social experiment, so if Speidi were acting, then that was their reaction.

I've been direct messaging with Heidi on Twitter all day. She is such a lovely, sweet, down to earth woman. I love her.

Sherriff Speidi were being themselves. They are a pair of dicks acting like dicks so they were real.

Patricia4 31-01-2013 07:49 PM

I think that's very nice them having lunch.
