The MLS Thread [Rimando is the Scott Sterling Reincarnated]

If Novo can have a scottish league thread, I'd figured why not?

A huge game happened last night between the top 2 teams in the league standings right now, Seattle Sounders FC and Real Salt Lake (Real is pronounced like madrid's Real) where the Sounders won 2-0 to jump to the top of the table. Which despite being at the top of the table at the end of the season doesn't give you the MLS cup, it gets you a trophy called the Supporters' Shield, A spot in the North American equivalent of the champions league, and Home Field Advantage for the playoffs up to the MLS Cup Final (If you make it there.)

BBfanUSA 21-09-2013 02:52 AM

Watching Portland Timbers and Colorado Rapids play against each other right now.

Current scoreline is 1-0 Portland thanks to a impressive chipshot by Diego Valeri.

Still hate Portland though.

Last Night, Seattle Sounders FC and LA Galaxy played a nationally televised game on NBC Sports, both of the main players they were advertising, Landon Donovan and Clint Dempsey, were both matchday scratches. (Landon had a ankle issue while Dempsey hurt his hamstring in a closed door practice earlier in the week) NBC Sports has had hardly any luck with any soccer matches this year

The game ended in a tie, Eddie Johnson scored off a corner kick from Mauro Rosales for Seattle in the 23rd minute. And Robbie Keane scored off a free kick just before halftime for LA.

Even though I think the coverage for the MLS is great they need to work on it a little bit, glad to see it being advertised during EPL games on NBC Sports Network. Because even though Attendance is improving, the TV ratings aren't (Although some people forget there's an ESPN2 and other networks than ESPN here in the states)

I think if America does well in Brazil that will help alot. It is kind of hard to find a footing on TV due to Football, Basketball, and Baseball. (There's only 3 games televised regarding on a Free To Air Network (Meaning NBC, FOX, CBS, ABC etc.) all on NBC)

There's a pivotal game tomorrow between #1 and 2 in the league, New York Red Bulls and Seattle Sounders respectiviley.

If Seattle wins they regain the top spot in the league, If they tie or RBNY wins, New York reamins on top.

Game is on ESPN in the US.

Novo 08-10-2013 04:10 PM

I forgot to mention this but the other day i watched DC United v Chicago Fire and DC dominated all game but Chicago Fire ended up winning 3-0 in the end, Sean Johnson played the game of his life in goal for Fire, made 3 or 4 world class saves and was so good at claiming the ball in the box, noticed he has been playing for America a bit more recently as well.

BBfanUSA 08-10-2013 04:44 PM

Yeah, DC United is literately the Wigan of the MLS right now. Worst team but yet they managed to win the US Open Cup (US version of the FA cup) and a spot in the next year's CONCACAF Champs League as well. They can't get relegated since that's not set up right now. (There is a 2nd and 3rd tier right now but I don't expect to see a regulation system to the MLS in the next decade but it could be possible in the decade after that. If that was set up now, it would hurt the MLS and Association Football in the US more than help it IMO and a bunch of people agree)

I think they've won only 4 MLS games this year and only a few points.

I recall watching that game as well this summer. Pretty Good game.

BBfanUSA 09-10-2013 10:10 PM

Despite not being called up to the USMNT, Clint Dempsey will be playing for Seattle Sounders FC tonight against the Vancouver Whitecaps. Whoever wins will win the Cascadia Cup (A series between Vancouver,Portland,Seattle whoever performs the best between the three of them wins the Cascadia cup).

And Yes MLS plays during the international window. It's nearing the end of the regular season as well.

BBfanUSA 14-10-2013 04:54 PM

Welp this could be interesting. The New York Daily News is reporting that the MLS could be switching to a european schedule for 2014. I see why but that will suck for some clubs such as Chicago Fire and Toronto FC.

BBfanUSA 23-10-2013 12:33 AM

And we have Club Number 21

Introducing Orlando City SC to the MLS

currently in the USL PRO (US Tier 3) they just got approval from the Orlando Florida City Council for a new stadium and MLS said that if Orlando City got a approval on a new stadium then they would give them a franchise.

Uniforms (Currently, might have a different kit sponsor for the MLS)

They're speculated to join in 2015, same year as New York City FC (NY's Second MLS Franchise)

Drew. 23-10-2013 12:41 AM

a purple club!!

King Gizzard 23-10-2013 12:48 AM

its very tempting purple clubs are the best

Glenn. 23-10-2013 12:58 AM

I don't watch Football but I would support Orlando

BBfanUSA 23-10-2013 01:47 AM

Whoops, looks like it's not official official but given how the MLS.com is talking about it, I'd say it's pretty close to official.

I guess we have to wait for a few months

Final weekend of regular season games. Is ending with LA Galaxy at Seattle Sounders on ESPN (So it should be on BT Sports, I'm not sure) Landon Donovan has one goal to score to be the lone record holder of most career goals in the MLS.

It's going to take too long for me to explain it here but Here's the playoff and supporter's shield

BBfanUSA 25-10-2013 09:21 PM

Er...wot? I have no idea what you're talking about

Novo 26-10-2013 01:05 AM

:joker:

Who is the top goalscorer in the MLS this season? Mike McGee was scoring loads of Chicago at one point

BBfanUSA 26-10-2013 01:26 AM

There's three frontrunners left. At 20 there's McGee (6 for LA Galaxy, 14 for Fire),and Marco Di Vaio for Montreal Impact. And then 19 goals from Camilo for the Vancouver Whitecaps

Novo 26-10-2013 01:36 AM

Di Vaio running rings around these american defences

BBfanUSA 27-10-2013 12:15 PM

Final Day, Western Conference is locked up on who's in it, just the seeding needs to be decided. (If a club has played 34 games, that means they've played their last game of the regular season)

BBfanUSA 28-10-2013 12:16 AM

By the way, New York Red Bulls won the supporters shield meaning they get into the 2014-15 CONCACAF Champions League and have Home Field Advantage in the playoffs to the MLS Cup Final if they make it there. First Silverware ever for the club. Was a club (back then they were known as the NY/NJ Metrostars) since 96 in the MLS and to finally get some silverware has to be a major acomplishment for them.

The last game of the regular season is being played right now, LA galaxy at Seattle Sounders FC. Just kicked off.

Novo 28-10-2013 12:31 AM

Poor Chicago getting destroyed, really thought they would beat them as well going by recent form, Henry just turns up at the important games though

BBfanUSA 28-10-2013 12:34 AM

Unimas was showing the game, should've bothered to watch it. The commentary would've been in Spanish but I'm a bit fluent in it.

EDIT: Watching Seattle and LA, Robbie Rogers is playing. Brave guy for coming out of the closet while still playing the sport he loves.

BBfanUSA 28-10-2013 12:41 AM

DEMPSEY HAS FINALLY SCORED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!! 1-0 Seattle 30th minute.

First Goal as a Seattle Sounder, He doesn't go nuts but points to his wrist basically saying it's about time.
