Ofcom complaints after airing Angie Bowie's reaction to David Bowie's death

TV watchdog Ofcom has revealed it's already receives complaints over footage of Angie Bowie's reaction to David Bowie's death on Celebrity Big Brother.

In scenes that aired at the end of last's show (January 11), due to be broadcast in full tonight on Channel 5 from 9PM, Angie was seen in the Diary Room speaking about the news.

Music legend David, who Angie was married to for a decade, unfortunately passed away late Sunday night from cancer aged 69.

In the Diary Room, Angie told Big Brother: "I haven't seen him in so many years I can't make a big drama about it... but I feel an era has ended."

Angie was then seen in tears with her head in her hands before being joined by fellow housemates David Gest and John Partridge.

"The stardust has gone," she told them before asking for their moral support.

Some viewers have criticised the airing of the footage and others claimed it was being used as a ratings ploy by Channel 5.

Ofcom said in a statement: "We've received 13 complaints about last night’s Celebrity Big Brother on Channel 5. We will assess these complaints before deciding whether to investigate or not."

Channel 5 confirmed yesterday afternoon that Angie had decided to stay in the house after being first told of the news in person and AWAY from cameras.

"Following the very sad news of David Bowie’s death, we can now confirm that Angie Bowie has been informed off camera by her representatives," they said in a statement. "She has taken the decision to continue in the programme. The decision to remain in the house is entirely her choice, and she has been given the option to leave at any time if she changes her mind."

They added: "Appropriate support will be available to Angie at any time if needed."

After the airing of last night's show, the official Big Brother Twitter account clarified: "For those asking – Angie was told the tragic news about David Bowie off camera by her agent, then spoke to BB about it in the Diary Room."
they shouldn't have showed the reaction tbh.. don't use a legend's death for your own show.

Completely warranted tbh - they shouldn't have shown it.

13 complaints?Out how many viewers?I bet they usually get more complaints than that on a weekly basis.

The guy is dead

Every news and media channel used his death to their own means

every newspaper will see a bump in sales

Record companies, Amazon, ebay and shops will cash in

He was a celeb not some bloke down a street

People just do not understand life and think that by being outraged they are right and by complaining they think that it makes them a better person

The same happens with a lot of death shown on tv, get that they're trying to be moral but it's reality tv and 2016 not 1970

It makes no sense at all to blame Angie tbh.

People need to get a life....Angie was obviously ok with it to be shown. C5 would not have shown it without her authority over such a sensitive issue. They showed it to to demonstrate her reaction and decision to stay in the house...it was such big devastating news yesterday and his ex wife happened to be on CBB.
I bet many people tuned in to see if anything would be shown.

There was nothing wrong or insensitive in what they did...if they hadn't shown anything they would have been slaughtered...C5 just couldn't win.
