Biggest transfer flop this season

for me Memphis Depay

Shaun 18-02-2016 02:54 PM

Benteke.

alex_front2 18-02-2016 03:05 PM

In August new megastar had arrived to terrorise the EPL, a megastar so important we only need to use his first name, so important, we would witness an era better than Sir Alex. Ladies and gentlemen I give you Memphis Depay.

Agreed Memphis "New CR7" Depay, he was sold as the 2nd coming, so for various reasons:-
  • huge transfer fee
  • winning the 'Best Boy' Prize as best European young prospect at PSV but was crap when he played against st his ex team mates even prior to Luke Shaw's nasty leg break
  • being Eredivisie's highest scorer and one of highest assists
  • jetting into Man U on private jet and red carpet as if he was some huge galactico
  • the self comparissons to Ronaldo and getting his own M7 branding usually reserved for the big stars
  • the relentless hype he openly encouraged ahead of the transfer and demanded to immediately wear the so called iconic no7 shirt ( Ronaldo even had to wait to get this)
  • boasting that he was the main football ambassador for Under Armour like Ronaldo is at Nike
  • the notion that he was an improvement on "disappointment" of Di Maria
  • the boasting of having the highest shirt sales after CR7, Messi and Rooney (yep more than Neymar)
  • his one dimensional style of play: the fact that he predictably cuts in on the right, can't win a one on one and can't run and shoot
  • the cocky bling "I am a don" style with gold teeth, shoe laces saying "I will score", and £250k Royles Royce which led us to believe Man U had some superstar in their midsts
  • the bulking up his size as he said he wanted to "terrorise EPL defences like they've never been terrorised before"
  • arrogant demeanour to ex team mate and Holland star Van Persie "big boys don't play for Fenerbahce"
  • the embarrassing comparrison with LCFC Mahrez who cost £400K
  • the Man U boast that he would dominate the left wing with bromance buddy Like Shaw, but when fit actually left back Shaw was more of a goalscoring threat in early season
  • the promise of hooking up with ex-Dutch manager LVG would yield a great star
  • the fact that Man U's best attacking threat Martial has to play out of position to accommodate Depay
  • the cocky instagramm posts of Z-list celeb girlfriends as if he's a star
  • the crappy defending that led to goals for Stoke FC and recently lazy goal attempt which led to goal for Sunderland FC
  • his hats

:joker:

But I don't want Depay to leave just yet, I find his deluded arrogance resulting in failure highly entertaining. I want Mourinho to arrive and drop him into U21. Gosh, how evil am I :laugh2:

Thauvin or Falcao for me. Thauvin has already been sent back to Marseille and couldn't get into a Newcastle first team over Gabby Obertan whilst Falcao has hardly been used despite being on extortionate wages.

Falcaos's spell last season at Man U and now Chelsea have been flops but technically they have been season long loans, rather than transfers, albeit expensive loans (£6m from Man U) organised by Jorges Mendes.

Shocked Payet recently signed a new contract, would have thought a PSG, Man U or Atletico would have snapped him up . Just shows you how West Ham are going places now wuth the Sky money and move to Olympic stadium

alex_front2 18-02-2016 07:40 PM

I take it all back against Memphis, he scored against....Midtjylland*. It was like watching CR7 at his Man U best

*To add to his goals against Sunderland, Watford, ex PSV, Clubbe Brugge :laugh2:

Depay.

We massively overspent on Benteke but he did still get a few important goals for us earlier in the season and we'll easily recoup most of that money back in the summer.

alex_front2 18-02-2016 09:47 PM

Benteke wasn't a flop, everyone knew Sherwood had flogged Liverpool a dud (everyone except, erm Brendan Rodgers. Whoops). :laugh2: He might not score but his movement off the ball is decent would interesting to see how he works with Sturridge back on form and Origi improving.

When he missed that sitter v Arsenal in FA CUP final it was obvious he was struggling just to be at his level. Who would buy him? Norwich City are scoring goals thank you very much (as LFC know following that 5-4 Lallana snatched victory). Clubs like West Brom will buy a striker from somewhere like St Etienne.
or Walsall.

Bentekes next move will be to Chinese Super League.

Not too concerned about Memphis. It's his first season in a foreign country and he's still Young. He hasn't even been our worse signing of the summer. Morgan has that honour.

I will leave this here for the lolz

I wouldn't call Martial a flop, just over priced which is what happens when you have better than average 19 year olds - paying for future potential. Martial is not a good as his price tag suggests, but he is still a better than average strikers. I'd take him even over Vardy purely on an age basis even though as things stand the LCFC player is way way better. But I would not take him over Ighalo or Lukaku. Martial was brilliant last season in CL when Monacco dispatched Arsenal at the Emerates 3-1.

He scored some decent goals for Man U, maybe not enough but a better manager like Mourinho could get more out of him. He scored a great "Henry" type goal in one of his first games which was against Liverpool and for that reason I don't think Man U can call him a flop. Martial has had to change positions just so that LVG can accommodate his dutch love child Depay. With a decent Rooney replacement Martial can easily be a Theirry Henry/ Aguero type hybrid.

Plus Martial has given one of my favorite moments this season in the loss again St Bournemouth when De Gea failed to save an easy goal and Martial metaphorically kissed his teeth and glared at DeGea.

Going back to my original comment about Martial price tag this sort of thing is going to happen more and more : clubs like Man U being ripped off as they believe they are buying galacticos or future galacticos. I know Dele Alli plays in a different role, but Man U over looked him when they lost against MK Dons 4-0 because he was too cheap. There are really great players not just in championship, League 1, league 2 and non leagueUE (better than EPL or La Liga fare) but as Arsene Wenger said of £400k Mahrez the big clubs won't buy as they are too cheap and the fans demand big money galactico players even if the cheaper players might be better. I'd rather have Mahrez or Vardy than Depay and Benteke.

The reality is price tags and massive wages are just a guide and testament of great agents not an exact marker of quality, whether fans want to admit it or not , there are plenty of lower League players from teams such as Dulwich Hamlet, St Pauli, Nurnberg, Le Havre, Cleremont Le Foot, Forrest Green, Cheltenham etc who would be better than the likes of Falcao and Matteo Darmian. Cheap rag tag team Leicester City which, lets face it, is full of ex non leaguers, chancers and big club academy rejects, trounced Galactico Man City a few weeks back (Aguero, Toure and Sterling all played).

Speaking of Darmian I don't think he's set Man U alight defensively as a right back. He's getting away with being mediocre as defenders generally get less scrutiny. Injured left back Luke Shaw has been a much better full back. Italians have a reputation of being superb defenders, but barring his first few games he's been rather crap. Flop.

I am also underwhelmed by legend Schweinsteiger. Seems to care more about getting it on with Ana Ivonovic than playing well. Apart from lucky goals v Watford and Leicester he's done sweet FA to justify his wages other than living off his legend and sucking up to old boss LVG.

Morgan Schneidlin? He wasn't that amazing at Soton so surprised he went to Man U. Wouldn't say he's a flop, just not up to what used to be Man u's old high standards.

yeah i also was surprised Man U. buyed him

for me Memphis is a flop, because he already thinks he's the new Ronaldo, really arrogant.

but then again Afellay was a flop as well with Barcelona, and now he's playing really well with stoke city

maybe Memphis isn't a Ronaldo, and will never be a Ronaldo 2.0

alex_front2 20-02-2016 12:05 PM

I think Memphis will top this!

What?

alex_front2 24-02-2016 09:15 AM

Villa Ayew (Jordan) is too busy shagging his Ghana teammates wives :laugh2:

Seriously, the better Ayew is Swansea Andre. Jordan is the Phil Neville, the Jack Chartlton, the Thiago Hazard to Andre's Gary Neville, Sir Bobby, Eden Hazard.

alex_front2 25-02-2016 09:13 PM

Credit where credit is due, Memphis was sensational tonight @ home against Midtjylland , he destroyed their defence and looked like a young CR7. However, the opposition was poor and the real test is Arsenal.

Cherie 25-02-2016 09:21 PM

Depay is just settling in, same for Martial

Martial has not been a flop. He's the only top notch attacker we have. Our attack is absolutely abysmal.

Therein lies the issue, he's not a top notch attacker, he's merely OK but he's the best of a bad bunch at Man U. The newboy Marcus Rushford could be better. Martial is merely doing well on potential and youth. You put him against a top form, the real top notch eg Aguero, Costa, Sanchez and Lukaku et al and he's going to get found out. He's not bad but not great just acceptable.
