Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics Discussion Thread
A thread to discuss all the build up over the next 4 years for the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics. http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2016/...52_634x888.jpg The 2020 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXXII Olympiad[2] (French: Jeux de la XXXIIe olympiade; Japanese: 第三十二回オリンピック競技大会; Hepburn: Dai Sanjūni-kai Orinpikku Kyōgi Taikai) and commonly known as Tokyo 2020, is a major international multi-sport event due to be celebrated in the tradition of the Olympic Games as governed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The games are planned to be held from 24 July to 9 August 2020 in Tokyo. The city was announced as the host at the 125th IOC Session in Buenos Aires on 7 September 2013. |
Don't think anyone has ever made a thread 4 years in advance of something :joker:

It's not really for 4 years in advance, more like the news and stuff up to Summer 2020, like the olympic park constructions etc. And I expect there be a lot of announcements due their being lots of new and innovative things taking place at the games. |
TBF it's so we can talk about the news without people making loads of threads

This would be amazing:
Japan may open 2020 Olympics with a man-made meteor shower The Olympics opening ceremony is an opportunity for all nations to come together and celebrate the spirit of competition. Or at least that’s what they’d like you to think. It’s really a chance for the host nation to totally show off with extravagant displays that often cost millions of dollars. Japan might be taking things to a new level when the 2020 Olympics kick off in Tokyo by creating a man-made meteor shower. A Japanese company called ALE Co is bidding to handle the pyrotechnics at the opening ceremony, and the key to its pitch is that it isn’t just planning on using fireworks like everyone else, it wants to fill the sky with hundreds of colorful shooting stars. If it gets the nod, this display would be visible from far outside Tokyo, up to 100 kilometers (62 miles) away. A meteor of such high apparent brightness would be potentially dangerous, but the company says that’s not a concern with its chemical payload. http://www.geek.com/news/japan-may-o...hower-1655947/ |
I don't think this forum will even still exist in 2020

Well even the Japanese haven't escaped the usual Olympic woes.
The original stadium design scrapped for something cheaper and less impressive. The total cost of games vastly over budget Long distance events like marathon and walk moved from Tokyo to Sapporo amid controversy |
