Fun time Theresa

Q. What would you do while all around you your government is collapsing?

A. Go to a banquet..... In honour of Paul Dacre

'Priti Patel quit her job as International Development Secretary on 8 November. And after that “hideous day”, May decided to go to a party celebrating 25 years of Paul Dacre being The Daily Mail‘s editor.

Dacre is a powerful media figure and his tabloid is often noted for its anti-immigration and right-wing views. It is also a clear backer of Brexit. And in 2016, a leaked email exposed the potential influence the paper had on the Conservative Party.

Links between the PM and the paper have also been close. In the first six months of her time in office, Dacre was the only media figure May hosted at 10 Downing Street with a private dinner. She also hired James Slack, The Daily Mail‘s former political editor, as her spokesperson earlier in 2017. And the tabloid endorsed May for the Conservative Party leadership in 2016 with a front-page headline arguing “why it must be Theresa”.

Judging from the social media reaction though, people are not impressed with May joining a celebration with a paper accused of using hate to push sales.

Instead, there’s plenty of unfinished business May could be dealing with. As one commentator said, her cabinet is “going down the toilet“. And it is only recently that a ‘sex pest’ scandal hit her party. What’s more, despite calls for May to sack Boris Johnson, after a damaging gaffe risked a British woman’s freedom in Iran, he still remains in post.'

GET THEM OUT!

I cannot begrudge her a drink and a meal after whats shes had to deal with recently tbh D: I actually feel so sorry for her. I don't think she wanted to stay on after the dreadful election results and now shes stuck with this recent issue also. She looks a bit of a joke, and I honestly could not blame her at this stage for falling out of the village local pissed mortal with her skirt up round her ears.

I should imagine the invite was given out a good while ago.
A bad day at work shouldn't mean you have to sit in your slippers and hide yourself away.:joker:

Dacre is far more important than Corbyn

id go too

:clap1:

joeysteele 09-11-2017 06:58 PM

I think she's in a near political living nightmare.
A well deserved one too for her,not an ounce of sympathy from me for the hard hearted, hardline incompetent she has shown herself to be.

Probably the worst person, post war to hold the high office of Prime Minister.

Yes she is actually,on social issues absolutely.

He was wrong on Iraq absolutely, she is devastating people's lives here with her rotten unjust austerity policies.
Overall yes,far worse, especially on domestic issues, than Blair for me and I couldn't stand him either.

DemolitionRed 09-11-2017 07:16 PM

Of course she went. Now more than ever she needs the full support of men like Paul Dacre. He holds her petticoats and she holds his coattails.

Edited to add: in fairness to May, if this were any other business in trouble, we'd call it 'good networking'

AnnieK 09-11-2017 07:26 PM

To be honest she was damned if she went and damned if she didn't. She's damned that she went as it seems bad timing with the Patel disaster but had she not gone her detractors would say she was running scared and keeping a low profile. The engagement would have been in her diary for a long time, security detail in place etc....long before this debacle came to light.

Kizzy 09-11-2017 07:44 PM

It's not a charity fundraiser... It's a banquet, for PAUL DACRE.

Ok I give up :joker:

She drove past us earlier, she lives a mile from my sister six out riders the jag un marked land rover and marked land rover.

Charles brandteth was speaking on radio earlier, was very funny and truthfull, said as a party whip he and another man had to get either side of drunk members to get them to make their vote.

I thought the same. No doubt arranged some time ago. Silly reason to have a go at her in my opinion.

Disgusting sums all up perfectly.

It depends what you mean by "worse", really... Tony Blair wasn't incompetent. The things he did that people hate, he did on purpose, which is bad in one way. Theresa May is just simply not coping with the job and it's falling down round her ears.

parmnion 09-11-2017 10:10 PM

Just shows how normal she is...hard day at the office...what better way to relax than with a nice meal and nice friends.

Where is jeremy...sitting alone at home, brewing bitterly, like ****ing steptoe.

thesheriff443 09-11-2017 11:19 PM

When will you lot learn, left or right are no better than the other
Both make mistakes both don't keep to their word,
They are just plate spinners and after a while those plates start to fall and smash, and the other side says look at all those smashed plates we could do a better job and so it starts again.

Just because she is in high political office doesn't mean she is not human.

I also have to say that in no way could TM be described as disgusting, she is a human being trying to do a job to the best of her abilities. I would love to see how some of her detractors would cope with what she has had to deal with. I am in no way her biggest fan, but I do appreciate the efforts that she makes for the good of this country.

Her miscalculating decision to waste public money on an election she promised wouldn't be called on multiple occasions, in an opportunistic bid to effectively wipe out all opposition to her government's increasingly damaging agenda - is what I found and find disgusting. Wasting public money? Check. Lying on several occasions? Check. Lauding oneself as a champion of democracy whilst attempting to seize an opportunity to set up a defacto one party state? Check. Being cheered on by her cabal in the tabloid press about 'crushing the saboteurs', then attending a celebratory dinner of one of the most repulsive men in British media? Check. This is without even mentioning those disgraceful 'go home' vans she oversaw whilst in the Home Office. So yeah, I find her, the manifesto she ran on, the government she's been a part of, and the large majority of her cabinet pretty disgusting actually, so you can spare the 'for the good of the country' nonsense.

I have no interest in running for public office because I know I wouldn't cope with it, so your point is moot. She should've realised the same and never put herself forward, and certainly not shrouded herself in the hubris and arrogance she did six months ago. She made her bed, and now she must lay in it. At least Cameron was statesmanlike, this woman is a laughing stock. And he ****ed a pig!

Do I feel sorry for her on a human level? Yes. Does that mean I forgive her for all that's gone before? Absolutely not.

Oh Bots ,didn't you know the detractors could do so much better,it's such an easy job to run a country efficiently !!! she may not be doing what some people deem she should but 'disgusting' NO way.

joeysteele 10-11-2017 07:59 AM

I'll stay with Jack_
Disgusting she was for the cuts to Police while Home Secretary.
She has dubious history on gay rights.

She wasted millions on an election she hoped to manipulate from greed.
She continues in the face of all organisations condemning same, to hold the Universal Credit shambles continuing.

One of the worst things is buying DUP votes to protect her own job, rather than compromise and create more concensus on politics, especially after throwing away her overall majority she already had.

She is weak and dare not take any action against Boris Johnson and others, her appointments leave much to question.

Disgusting woman, trying to hide behind supposed Christian values, while in her job, being nothing else but hardline, heartless and in my view wholly ignorant.

I detest this woman and did even when I supported the Cons.
She is in my view the likely worst Home Secretary we ever have had.
She now equally with some of her truly disgusting and heartless policies, the worst PM likely too.

She isn't up to the job,her appointments, her judgements her decisions create more problems.
The only decent thing she could do for me is at last, honourably resign and head off to the backbenches with no real power over anyone again.
Preferably though, clear off into the political wilderness altogether.

LeatherTrumpet 10-11-2017 08:08 AM

I agree that no leader of a modern country should be allowed to pretend to believe in gods

its absurd

Kazanne 10-11-2017 09:05 AM

And don't forget she also gets colds and coughs which is a henious crime. :-)
