Channel 5 Ratings
So now that Love Island has been on for a few weeks with no Big Brother competing with it either directly or indirectly, how is Channel 5 doing in the ratings so far this summer against itv2 and the other channels compared to how it did when BB was on, even last year when the ratings were at an all time low? Im curious as to what kind of ratings channel 5 can muster without its flagship show in the summer. It could be important data for 5 to consider when deciding whether to renew. Anyone know these ratings details?

Seems to be ticking by as normal though the shows that get the regular ratings they still are may have a different audience?

Idk the ratings but I agree that it will show how 5 does without their biggest show

Last night at 9pm on C5:
Cruising with Jane McDonald: 1.47m (8.2%) exc. +1 That's quite a bit more than what BB got last year :worry: I'm not sure about other nights though |

Just to add they are filling their time slots with crap like "cats make you laugh out loud" so they really are desperate to fill the schedule without BB.

The week LI launched most of their programs at 9 brought in over 1m
THE SPACE SHUTTLE: TRIUMPH & TRAGEDY 0.85m HOTEL INSPECTOR 1.32m RICH HOUSE POOR HOUSE 1.31m INSIDE... 1.55m CRUISING WITH JANE MCDONALD 2.28m SECRETS OF TUTANKHAMUN'S TREASURES 0.89m THE YORKSHIRE STEAM RAILWAY: ALL ABOARD 0.51m https://www.barb.co.uk/viewing-data/weekly-top-30/ |

Remember BBUK was on at 10pm though, not 9pm... that makes quite a difference in terms of overall audience and key demo audience. Plus, the first week of BB18 averaged an official 1.55 million which is more than all of these, Jane being an exception. |
Thanks very much MTVN for those numbers, do you have access to the 10 PM figures? I think they will be less then 9PM and hopefully illustrate that the ratings of the shows that are airing where BB would have are not doing as well.

TRAFFIC COPS*0.84m THE STORY OF...*0.63m EGYPT UNWRAPPED*0.59m TOP OF THE BOX 0.51m So the other three would have rated less than that |
Thanks thats exactly the info I was looking for. So we can safely conclude that 5 is taking a big ratings hit without BB, food for thought for Ben Frow. I know some will ask does the shows high cost justify the ratings increase, but getting those kind of ratings at least 4 months out of the year also has a big halo effect on the entire channel itself. It also illustrates that despite Frows warped and pretentious view of the channel as more highbrow than lowly BB, the highest rated show at 10 by far is traffic cops with all the rest at .63 or below. They really have nothing near what theyd need to fill BBs slots in terms of replacement programming either available or even in development.

Channel 5 is an old people’s channel now. Look at the schedule.

It’s always been full of needless ****e but now it’s literally aiming towards the older people because they presume everyone else streams **** now, even though they’re right next to itv2 who’s rolling in it because they’ve actually made something people want to watch.

It just shows what a clueless bitch Frow is. Clearly BB and 5 both need each other, yet he pretends as if he doesn't and only they do in some very badly misconcieved negotiating hardball. In the process, by making disparaging comments toward the show and insisting he doesnt need or want it, he absolutely destroys the biggest and most popular show on his entire cheesy network. He will look like a fool if the show goes, because overall ratings for the channel will obviously and unquestionably drop (as demonstrated by the ratings data in this thread) and 5 will then actually be showing a few hundred more hours of the crappy content they fill the rest of their schedule with now, with even worse results.
