Do fans hold biases towards gender/sexuality/race when watching reality TV shows
I see it being suggested a lot, usually: ‘people wouldn’t like him if he was a black woman’ or ‘people would love him if he was a black woman’
Is there actually truth in it? Do you, or do you believe others use physical attributes as a way to help determine a favourite or a least favourite? And why? Do you think its a conscious thing, or do you think some are unconsciously drawn to a certain type of person? Never really known what side of the fence to sit on... there does seem to be exceptions to every claim, but I have also seen the blatant reasons people are making the claims in the first place. |
I like housemates who have layers to them, who are not afraid to show their flaws, I don't care whether they are of any particular colour or size, male or female, in this series I like Zoe,Lewis,Cameron and Brooke all very different imo.so for me it's no .

Clearly some do, as they do in all walks of life.

Well duh

Enough to drastically change the outcome of the show, or just the rare few? Or a lot of people but their biases cancel each other out?! |
You should like and support who you like, based on the person involved, some on here only support mouthy black women and in the case of CBB become mega fans of people before they come in and before they've seen them warts and all ,I judge them on what they give to the show and their personalities and fairness

Though some biases will cancel each other out. e.g. Orlaith (attractive white female) vs Science (argumentative black male). |
Well i think those things must have some effect as they all add to the whole package of a persons character.
I don’t buy that ‘so and so was only voted out cos they are black’.You’d have to be a very shallow person who’s not taken any time to invest in the housemates character to vote like that. I do think these traits have helped people win though.Nadia for instance. |
That Cristian twat is the best example to prove it exists I think. There is no reason that bloke should have had even one fan.
He only had about 5 minutes airtime a week and it was entirely negative. But then again, tan and 6 pack. But, he was first out in the final anyway so maybe i was just paying a lot of attention to his few fans. |
I just like people for who they are...colour is irrelevant to me. I like someone who entertains..has opinions and fair minded. As far as BB is concerned I may like the quiet fence sitters but they wont get my support if they do nothing.

There’s a lot of bias based on physical attributes too. People have said they save Lewis because of his looks and that is very shallow and wrong.

When this series started there was a positive bias for Tomasz because he was gender-fluid.
I thought he was ok but not to the extent that others were going crazy for him. I think they liked him for what he 'represents' rather than him as a individual. However, now the rose-tinted glasses seem to be off and people see Tomasz for who he is. I always see positive bias for LGBT contestants, just because they are LGBT |

Everyone picks their favourite or least favourite for so many different complex reasons, it's just not possible to answer.
If one picks a favourite housemate for a single cosmetic reason, it says more about the viewer than of the housemate. |
Some members certainly do.
As chuff correctly said there are a few forum members that will support a black woman on first impressions and through thick and thin, regardless of how she acts. There is also a member or two that will support the 'attractive white dude' regardless of how he acts, and whether he is entertaining [then its time to get the bores out], but then again will support him if hes a mega dullard [aka Cristian, and then its time to get the camera hoggers out]. You notice patterns with certain members. |
Nobody is forcing you to have a favourite at all, it's a free choice.
People are just fearful of not being part of a group, a need of belonging to something. I'm an individualist myself, so my favourite and least favourite can change from week to week or day to day. |
