Do you consider these GORGEOUS songs as Christmas songs?
I’m sick of having this debate with people, because these two are probably my two favourite Xmas songs but loads of people jump down me fookin throat with ‘THEY ARE NOT XMAS SONGS!’ - so what do you think?
I OBVIOUSLY say yes, they’re both played a lot at Christmas. I only listen to them at Christmas. They ARE bloody Christmas songs! |
2 become 1 no
stay another day yes |

whew ah love being t'voice of reason! always in the right always in the right :p
|
I do, my best mate doesn't think E17's is, she HATES it for some reason, idk
But yeah, both Crimbo smashes! |
Both are iconic but I've never heard of 2 become 1 being a Crimbo song before :/
|
Also PSA Kylie's version of stay another day is a SMASH!
|
Yeah, Stay Another Day is a Christmas song
2 Become 1, though? I beg to differ :nono: |
My nephew put it brilliantly... "Stay Another Day is a Christmas song because they're wearing coats in the music video."
|
What about this; doesn't mention Christmas, doesn't sound all that Christmassy but only exclusively played round Christmas time:
|
Spice Girls actually had 3 consecutive Xmas #1's didn't they?
2 Become 1 - 1996 Too Much - 1997 Goodbye - 1998 Legends :clap2: |
Neither are!
|
Well, they were released in the Christmas season so...
E17 are in the snow and the Spice Girls are clearly in NY at Christmas time with Vicky B forgetting her skates for the ice rink. SO! |
Reet Petite by Jackie Wilson was Christmas number 1, so does that make it a Christmas song?
This new John Cena film Bumblebee is being released at Christmas time, does that make it a Christmas film? |
I don’t know... Bob the builder’s ‘can we fix it’ was also christmas number one, but that isnt about christmas either and nobody would consider that a christmas song (would they?) I’m leaning no. Like the definition of a christmas song is surely that it is a song about christmas, and not a song that was popular at a specific christmas.

is it so hard top separate an actual song about Christmas from one that happened to do well at Christmas?
|
Would you have called the XFactor dirge Christmas songs, when they used to get the #1 slot?
|
I wouldn’t say they were Xmas songs as such, just released at Xmas time and because they were Xmas number 1s they still get played at Xmas time.
They don’t SCREAM Christmas to me. |
Well technically neither mention anything to do with Christmas but will always identify with it. Stay another day has the bells in the background and 2 become 1 was a xmas number 1 but it is a song that can probably be relevant all year long. For that reason I will say stay another day is but 2 become 1 isn't. It's the same as Ed Sheeran perfect being xmas number 1 last year it's a song that works all year long but will now identify with xmas. However if either thank u next or sweet but Pyscho get xmas number 1 none of them will ever identify as xmas songs
|
The Bells in the East17 song do give it a little bit of Christmas feeling, so I can see why people associate that song, but then again Little mix had a song out at Christmas time a couple of years ago that also had bells in it and nobody associates that with Christmas.
The Spice Girls songs are not Chrismassy at all. |
no both are not Christmas songs :fan:
