DC Titans, new superhero series on netflix

i had just finished watching this, i would easily recommend this to anyone who is a fan of DC comics, Batman, Gotham fans

Quote:

a tiny (spoiler free) teaser from me what it's about, Dick Grayson aka Robin had left Gotham for Chicago to work as a police officer/investigator, he has no contact with Batman anymore, and one day he meets this strange young girl with a dark mystery and there the story begins

Spoiler:

Marina Sirtis or Deanna Troi from Star trek TNG has a small guest role in one of the episodes

I caught up with a few episodes last night - as a fan of DC, I really dislike it :(

What the hell have they done to Starfire? Anna Diop is beautiful, why did they make her look so cheap? Whoever put that cheap wig/weave on her should be arrested for hate crimes. I don't know how they made her look more like a hooker in this when she's not showing much skin compared to her costumes in the comics...

Beast Boy was okay, wish he was green though. I can see why he isn't, the paint or whatever would be time and budget intensive...

Why the focus on Raven this early? Until the team is more established, she's meant to be a smaller role, with her healing and empath powers etc being more prominent than her personality.

Dick Grayson isn't Jason Todd, he wouldn't be so violent towards those thugs and wouldn't say "**** Batman" like that. Even when he became Knightwing he didn't separate himself from Bruce and his teachings that much.

I'd probably like it more if I didn't like the comics to be fair. And I was only half paying attention because I was tired...

At first I thought the nuclear family was going to be a version of Kid Amazo's family, and then was disappointed when it wasn't haha

--- Spoilerish (nothing major) ---

Spoiler:

The Batman in this is, from what we see and hear of him, a pretty dark / brutal take on the character and believe it or not Robin as violent as he is, seems to have left because of how dark Batman got :umm2:.

Also, Nu Robin (Jason Todd) is in this later on for an episode-and-a-bit (and seems to be back in season 2) and is clearly distinguished as being more violent / chaotic than Grayson.

Its just a darker and more violent take on the Batman universe I think clearly more in the ballpark of Batfleck, who was twisting spines and cracking skulls all through BvS. Its a bit more realistic than most vigilante stuff to be fair. In realz, it's not realistic for someone to be out tackling violent criminals without shedding some blood.

I see what they were going for, and there's nothing particularly egregious about it, I just didn't happen to like it

There was an alt-continuity Batman comic recently where Grayson left due to Batman's behaviour rather than wanting to be his own hero - Bats drove the Batmobile on the roofs of several inhabited properties, and knocked a few people over in pursuit of Joker without noticing or caring. When he caught Joker, he beat him waaay too much, and nearly choked him with pills. All this was for a reason which I won't spoil for any onlookers. But I didn't mind that so much because of the reason behind it, and the story in general. If anyone wants a pdf of the first issue, slide into my DMs

I'd be a lot more forgiving if this Robin was Todd, as he was always the most reckless of the Robins (possibly apart from Damian), and that was before Red Hooding up!

I dunno, it just seems like everything's that tiny bit wrong, aha. Starfire's characterisation is fine apart from the costume and hair, and Gar is great, his intro stealing the video game sums him up imo. I just wish he was greeeen full time :p
and I just don't like Raven being an angsty teen, or her portrayal in general.

To be fair I don't like the DC movies after DKR either :p

Tony Montana 08-07-2020 10:18 PM

Been meaning to watch this, will watch the pilot tomorrow.

Hope it's good.

Oliver_W 09-07-2020 02:20 PM

I completely walk back my previous comments, this show is great. It takes a while for me to forgive things for being different to the books or comics they're based on :joker:

LukeB 09-07-2020 09:37 PM

I really like Wondergirl and i wish she had her own show like Batwoman and Supergirl but i'm fine with her being a titan.

LukeB 10-07-2020 07:55 PM

WTF

Spoiler:

They killed off Donna/Wonder Girl :(
