Londonderry riots: Journalist Lyra McKee shot dead in 'terrorist incident'
Detectives have said the New IRA, a dissident republican group, was most likely behind the reporter's murder.

No the ones responsible are the Provisional IRA

These so called dissident groups can not operate without the approval of the Provisional IRA, the ones that the UK Government unconditionally surrendered to in the Good Friday Betrayal.

Maybe a Hard No Deal Brexit is a good thing after all if it gets rid of this hated appeasement of the men of blood, the IRA

Did you ever grow up under the shadow of the IRA?

I did. We could not touch the post unless it had been screened or get in parent's cars until they had been checked?

Lets not forget that Corbyn is also an appeaser to the IRA, those behind the so called "New IRA"

We were always told, that no group could carry out an operation unless the IRA had approved it. It is therefore hypocritical and nauseating of that Sien Fein politician condemning this atrocity as Sien Fein are part of the IRA. Always have been always will be.

Can you post the link to where it is suggested she was deliberately targetted because she was gay?

Poor woman, it's really awful. I hope this isn't the start of things to come, it would be so bad if things started to go back to where it was before

The New IRA has admitted that it was responsible for journalist Lyra McKee’s death last Thursday.

Lyra, 29, was shot dead in Derry while she was covering the riots, which took place in Creggan.

There was a huge backlash against those responsible for her death as Ms McKee’s friends staged a protest yesterday.

Following glowing praise of the deceased journalist, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar also condemned republican group Saoradh for their March through Dublin on Saturday.

It is now completely clear that the New IRA are responsible for the death of Ms McKee, but the organisation said that she was shot by members who were trying to shoot at police.

According to RTE, the group’s statement read: ‘On Thursday night following an incursion on the Creggan by heavily armed British crown forces which provoked rioting, the IRA deployed our volunteers to engage.

‘We have instructed our volunteers to take the utmost care in future when engaging the enemy, and put in place measures to help ensure this.

‘In the course of attacking the enemy Lyra McKee was tragically killed while standing beside enemy forces

‘The IRA offer our full and sincere apologies to the partner, family and friends of Lyra McKee for her death.’

The New IRA is understood to have been comprised of the Real IRA and a number of other smaller organisations which merged sometime between 2011 and 2012.

Police investigations into Lyra’s death are progressing, as the Police Service of Northern Ireland revealed that they have received information about her murder from 140 people so far.

I am sure that is of great comfort to them :skull:

We didn't mean to murder her ... we meant to kill the police ... does that make it acceptable?

I was watching the news last night and it seems this awful event has had the reverse effect to that people were fearing. Lots of solidarity between people who don't want to go back to the violence of the past, such a shame a woman had to lose her life... but her death certainly seems to have galvanised people.

I hope so.
