It's not the phones that are (supposedly) an issue, it's that the company is setting up the actual data towers that will provide the 5G coverage - for all handsets, on all networks. Because its a Chinese company and the Chinese government has some laws in place that could mean they can demand that the company shares data with them, and thus, there are concerns about the Chinese government having access to personal data transmitted over 5G.

It doesn't matter what brand of handset you have, if the plan goes ahead all 5G data for the foreseeable future would go through Huawei data masts.

The handsets themselves are decent. Great camera.

The Phones are Great Value
its not the Huawei Mobile Phones

as TS just stated its the 5G Tower's etc.

bitontheslide 05-05-2019 06:12 PM

5G has a different type of architecture than previous versions. It's architecture means that any element of the system can become a security vulnerability, hence the importance of making sure all the end to end hardware is secure. That's why everyone is concerned by the chinese involvement, and rightly so.

[EE is under fire after launching
its 5G network using kit from controversial
Chinese group Huawei.

The mobile firm, owned by BT, switched on its
5G service in six UK cities on Thursday
to huge fanfare, including a
concert headlined by
rapper Stormzy in London.
But security experts said they had
'grave concerns' after it emerged Huawei's equipment
was at the heart of the network.

I'm sure the phones are great. Allowing them so very much input into the 5G infrastructure is a mistake that's going to come back to bite everyone in the arse. You can all come back when it goes tits up and say, Liv, you were right. I never get tired of hearing that.

The Shocking Problem we have
there is NO 2nd company doing Infrastructure for 5G.

It appears every connected Company
trusted Huawei
on Early 2G to 4G.

It is crazy not to have a back up company 5G Infrastructure
in this day and age.

Some big tech firms cut employees' access to Huawei, muddying 5G rollout

[Chipmakers Intel Corp and Qualcomm Inc, mobile research
firm InterDigital Wireless Inc and South Korean
carrier LG Uplus have restricted employees from
informal conversations with Huawei,
the world’s largest telecommunications equipment maker,
the sources said.
Such discussions are a routine part of
international meetings where engineers
gather to set technical standards for
communications technologies,
including the next generation of
mobile networks known as 5G.

The U.S. Department of Commerce
has not banned contact between companies
and Huawei.
On May 16, the agency put Huawei on a blacklist,
barring it from doing business with U.S. companies
without government approval,
then a few days later it authorized U.S. companies
to interact with Huawei in standards bodies
through August “as necessary for the development of 5G standards.”
The Commerce Department reiterated that
position on Friday in response to a question from Reuters. ]

[Nevertheless, at least a handful of major U.S. and overseas tech companies are telling their
employees to limit some forms of direct interaction,
the people said, as they seek to avoid any potential
issues with the U.S. government.
Intel and Qualcomm said they have provided compliance
instructions to employees, but declined to comment on them further.]

[5G SLOWDOWN

The new restrictions could slow the rollout of 5G, which is expected to power
everything from high-speed video transmissions to self-driving cars,
according to several industry experts.
At a 5G standards meeting last week in Newport Beach, California,
participants privately expressed alarm to Reuters that the long-standing cooperation
among engineers that is needed for phones and networks to connect globally
could fall victim to what one participant described as a “tech war” between the U.S. and China]

Victor Zhang
President Of Global Government Affairs
was on SkyNewsHD Business Report Tuesday 17th Dec 2019
talking to Ian King.

He said if the UK does not choose Huawei
it would cost more than £7 Billion pounds.
The UK has been working with Huawei
for 18 years now.

We find out in some weeks ahead.

Ericsson - a Swedish company
Samsung - a South Korean company
