He’d be amazing, I don’t think they’d allow it though, can’t imagine them seeing past his skin unfortunately

I think he will be bond, he'd play the part so well

Elliot 06-06-2019 02:37 PM

Icons

I think he will be Bond as well. Been rumoured quite a bit. Hell if we can have a female Dr Who then why not a black Bond.

Kazanne 06-06-2019 03:52 PM

Love Idris Elba, seeing more of him can only be a good thing, not keen on Bond films ,but I might watch if he is Bond.

He would make a great Bond. Mysterious and sexy.

Goes for cold shower.

Always had hopes that Gerard Butler would do Bond as he was listed once but that time passed so Idris would be ideal.

Right, stop it. All of you... Idris cannot be Bond. It'd be like casting Brad Pitt as Shaft.

Not this again

Race isn't an important part of Bond's character, Fleming always intended the character to be a neutral character, an 'anonymous instrument'. Hell, he was inspired by the films to make James scottish in the later books he wrote so that tells you that Fleming considered James' background to be malleable to change and reinvention.

The way James Bond was written and created makes him a character that can be changed and relaunched quite easily. The only thing about him that should remain consistent about his identity is that he is a man.

The Shaft example is a pretty bad one since Shaft was a blaxspoitation film and Shaft being black is an integral part of his character because of it.

Ian Fleming's niece disagrees

LeatherTrumpet 07-06-2019 08:10 AM

Lol

he will never be james bond

Liam- 07-06-2019 08:13 AM

They’ll always pick a basic posh white bloke to play Bond rather than see past colour and go with the best choice, sad really, but they’d rather not have the controversy from the um... ‘traditionalists’

LeatherTrumpet 07-06-2019 09:01 AM

I think it will be Tom Hardy

I doubt Fleming would be against it either given that he retconned elements of the character after the films were made. There's grounds to suggest he intended the character to be, like in the films, constantly changing.
