But what about the Solid Men Only Comedy Teams
that do not need a additional Women Writer
adding pink dresses?

Adding pink dresses? I don't understand what you mean here in regards to writing comedy? Or was this your attempt at some sort of sexist humour? If so I wouldn't be applying yourself to be one of the writing teams

Carolyn McCall
the CEO of ITV
creates a war.

Oliver_W 18-06-2019 03:12 PM

Yawn. For all she knows she could be excluding the next Monty Python, all to signal about how 'inclusive' they're being.

The only question that should be asked is 'how much money will they make us?' Discriminating based on gender is just wrong.

Great Points
Oliver W.

My understanding was that she reviewed the content and it was male centric. She then looked at the writers and there were 5 * as many male writers selected compared to women. Thats not a balanced situation.

Why can't a woman be part of the next "Monty Python"?

If you can't win fairly, then you may as well cheat.

Nobody is stopping them.

However, this CEO is saying that she'll stop men.

Arguably Cleese's best work, Faulty towers, was co-written with his wife a long time ago, so he had no issue with it.

There could well be. Luckily such a team would be given the light, while a possible equally brilliant team will be discriminated against for their collective gender.

Comedy is a massively gender biassed area when it comes to women being fairly dealt with and represented. Sometimes intervention is needed to kick things into modern times

All that's "needed" is for it to be funny, and to make money.

A comedy which has great commercial potential and has a sense of humour which has wider subjectivity should come before something more niche, regardless of which genders have written which.

Alf 18-06-2019 03:56 PM

Comedy is under attack, and being forced to die off. I've been saying it for ages.

There is still some life online, but they're coming for that too.

We must all be as miserable as the self diagnosed oppressed.

That is so untrue, spoken like a man though, well done

Why do you think comedies on a commercial platform don't need to be funny or profitable?

Liam- 18-06-2019 04:01 PM

A gender balance in comedy is always a good thing, the more women in writing teams the less sexist comedy get put on screen, however, I fail to remember the last time itv actually put a good comedy out so a refresh in writers is probably needed

Alf 18-06-2019 04:01 PM

History clearly tells us that men are just funnier than women.

Facts don't care about your feelings
