The BBC is overhauling how the UK act for the Eurovision song contest is selected, scrapping the public vote in favour of teaming up with a record label to choose the singer and the song.

Cyndi Lauper is coming internally :fc:

or another big name, at least i hope so, give us the entertainment uk

Shaun 16-09-2019 01:58 PM

A step in the right direction but I fear it'll be an incredibly safe label decision and we'll still end up sending someone blander than Mollie King.

So I wouldnt be surprised at an international artist, Mans anyone?

Twosugars 16-09-2019 02:43 PM

I mean it can't hurt right, the last several years' choices were not great

True

A better plan.
However I doubt it will make much difference.
Unless a big name could ever be persuaded to enter.

Who would though.

It wouldn't matter if Adele or Ed sheeran represented us... Europe would still not vote for the United Kingdom

They would and have when we sent decent enough entries

of course they will vote for something crowdpleasing, modern ;)

i hope BBC knows what ''modern music'' is

but then again, they should first give more artistic freedom to those who want to take part for UK at eurovision

It’s about time, we clearly can’t be trusted to pick a decent act

parmnion 16-09-2019 06:09 PM

About time..

yes i'm sure the people of Slovakia would stubbornly refuse to vote for someone they have albums of

so tired of reading that inane point

Headie 16-09-2019 06:35 PM

About time they got rid of You Decide considering these were all snubbed by the British public year after year

Liam- 16-09-2019 06:42 PM

Sweet Lies could have banged

Denver 16-09-2019 06:51 PM

I'm certain we will get Mans Zelmerlow and thought so since last year

Shaun 16-09-2019 06:53 PM

the only one of those I could've seen performing well (ie "mid table at least") was Olivia tbh... Asanda sounded awful live, couldn't make out a word she was singing. Kerrie-Anne was hard to call, but should've won over Michael. Bianca was pretty bad.

Near zero percent chance that will happen

The BBC love him and had him hosting their last 3 Eurovision programmes and he has said he wants to represent the UK so I would say its highly likely

Denver 16-09-2019 07:26 PM

Plus he has a big fan base within Europe which will appeal to the BBC

Liam- 16-09-2019 07:29 PM

I mean, we’re known for not really taking Eurovision seriously as it is, do we really need or want to be the desperate country that pays a winner to represent us? I don’t think he’d risk the humiliating defeat

T* 16-09-2019 07:30 PM

Sweden would never let him live it down if he flopped either lmao

Liam- 16-09-2019 07:34 PM

We just need a decent song with a decent singer/performer and let them run with it, none of the ‘everyone love everyone! :)’ crap we’ve relied on for the past few years

T* 16-09-2019 07:34 PM

It is mildly exciting news and it is a good step in the right direction but I’m not holding my breath bc I just know they’ll be like ‘here’s KEZZA KATONA!!!’
