Trump's promise to foreign leader - trouble ahead

Donald Trump’s promise to a foreign leader so troubled an official in the US intelligence community that it prompted the person to file a whistleblower complaint, the Washington Post reported on Wednesday.

The Post, which cited two former officials familiar with the matter, said it was not immediately clear which foreign leader Trump was speaking with or what he pledged to deliver. The communication was a phone call, one former official said, according to the Post.

The intelligence community inspector general, Michael Atkinson, determined that the complaint was credible and troubling enough to be considered a matter of “urgent concern”, a legal threshold that requires notification of congressional oversight committees, the Post said.

But the acting director of national intelligence, Joseph Maguire, has refused to share details about the complaint with lawmakers, the paper reported. Maguire has defended his refusal by asserting that the subject of the complaint is beyond his jurisdiction, it said.

Adam Schiff, the Democratic chair of the House intelligence committee, has sought to compel US intelligence officials to disclose the full details of the whistleblower complaint to Congress.

Atkinson is scheduled to appear at a closed hearing of the committee on Thursday morning and Maguire has agreed to testify before the panel in open session a week later, Schiff said in a statement.

“The IC IG determined that this complaint is both credible and urgent, and that it should be transmitted to Congress under the clear letter of the law. The committee places the highest importance on the protection of whistleblowers and their complaints to Congress,” the statement said.

The White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Representatives of the office of the director of national intelligence could not be reached.

Meh how many times have we heard stories like this in the last couple of years only for nothing to come of them

There's literally nothing for us to go on here in any case

Kizzy 19-09-2019 08:08 AM

Either it's the recent failed attempt to aquire Greenland and the reasoning behind that.
Or, it's the backing hes giving Israel to carry out further killings there.
Or, it's backing Saudi Arabia in retaliation with Iran.
Or, it's brexit related and we become a US European base.

Or..all of the above.

Its not the same as before. This is not someone going to the press and leaking juicy information. In this instance, someone heard Donnie say something in the Oval office and thought it so bad that they went thru the official channels to complain. The official channels then agreed the information was sensitive enough to follow up and is now looking into the issue. Normally this would be huge news but I also think not much will come of it

I think this is very bad for Trump. I've heard something which i won't mention unless its made generally known, but it is just one part of several issues notified. and that one issue alone will be devastating

Only the orange moron could be so stupid
His antics make Nixon look good in comparison

Trump has now admitted he asked a foreign leader to investigate Biden. Under normal circumstance this would be it for Donnie but note, not one Republican law maker has made any kind of comment.

bitontheslide 23-09-2019 06:14 PM

i've now heard some rumours of whats coming out from the remainder of the whistleblower comments and it gets even better  lets see what the next 24 hours brings

Why? What has Biden done to be investigated for?

parmnion 23-09-2019 06:32 PM

Armed police and armed response van sitting outside the Saudi embassy in Mayfair today...I am assuming that's not normal.

Impeach the orange moron, enough of this law breaking

GiRTh 23-09-2019 08:11 PM

Now Trump is saying he didnt discuss Ukraine. Yesterday one thing, today something else. We need the transcript of the phone call but will congress have the votes to get it.

Tom4784 23-09-2019 09:06 PM

I think we've gotten to that point in which Donald Trump breaking the law is so expected that it's difficult for it to gain traction in the press. With so many Republicans deciding that power is more important than integrity, I don't think anything can happen to Trump unless he loses the next election which given Moscow Mitch's efforts to strike down any bills or attempts to ensure that the same interference that happened in 2016 doesn't happen again, he'll probably win.

parmnion 23-09-2019 09:11 PM

Donald must have some serious shizzle on some serious people....no wonder he built that hotel....is he the first prophet the usa has had as president?
