Hungary pulls out of Eurovision amid rise in anti-LGBT rhetoric

Hungary will not participate in next year’s Eurovision song contest, amid speculation that the decision was taken because the competition is “too gay” for the taste of the country’s far-right government and public media bosses.

While no official reason has been given for the withdrawal, the move comes amid an increase in homophobic rhetoric in Hungary, where the anti-migration prime minister Viktor Orbán has launched a “family first” policy aimed at helping traditional families and boosting birth rates.

Earlier this year, the speaker of the Hungarian parliament compared gay adoption to paedophilia, while a pro-government television commentator referred to Eurovision as “a homosexual flotilla” and said not participating would benefit the nation’s mental health.

Nicky91 28-11-2019 08:14 AM

won't be missed, and pls kazakhstan replace them :fc:

Nicky91 28-11-2019 08:21 AM

good riddance they are gone, vile homophobic stupid irrelevant country, with non-existent crap music (no good song comes from them anyway)

Kazakhstan is eager to take part at big eurovision too, especially after the 2nd place at junior eurovision this year, or clear bosnia's debts some investor (Bosnia are also very willing to come back after clearing debts, and a healthy budget to compete)

they are homophobic though, if they withdraw because a contest is too gay friendly

and i hate viktor orban, he's disgusting, him being against rights for women, his racism, nationalism, anti-lgbtq

and i'm only that towards Hungary (but hopefully one day they see the light)

as for UK, well internal selection might work for you guys next year, just need the right artist, bit uptempo song too

Nicky91 28-11-2019 04:02 PM

hungarian media are denying this, the withdrawal because of this reason to be true

no, it is just a withdrawal like what they earlier said about wanting to work on their pop scene (one year off from eurovision) same what they did after their nq in 2009, withdrawing from 2010 contest

but the vile media have to blow it up and make it look worse than it is :notimpressed:

i feel sorry for that hungarian delegation

no, i don't want anyone to withdraw honestly, neither wants the EBU, we want to grow into 44, and then eventually into 46 countries each year

Nicky91 28-11-2019 04:27 PM

also i don't believe this anti-lgbt story at all :joker:

but how do they come across to it, sadly viktor trash orban exists, wish they could fire him from a cannon onto the moon, and then a more sane person as his replacement

but yeah the people who believe fake news LOL :laugh3: :laugh3:
