So my friend can't afford to renew her tv licence till after xmas and she phoned them up and said she would not watch the tv until she could pay. They said that was fine but make sure she doesn't put it on by accident because they can now detect such from their offices. I think this is bull****. They would not need TV detector vans if that were the case surely?

They can't tell at all....the detectors vans can't tell either.. they can only tell if they knock on the door and see you watching

This is true. They were out of order to tell your friend that they can do something they cant. There should be someway Kate can take that further but I'm not sure of the details.

You always pay 12 months in advance so it should be paid already for the next 12 months you now are paying or saving to pay for the next 12 months so it fine to watch tv
