piggott was an actual criminal, found guilty and a very unpleasant guy as well, so he is no legend to me

He doesn't need to be a legend to you. But as a Jockey his name will go down in legend forever. Making him a legendary Jockey, which is what it says in the thread title.

We knew a young jockey that worked for him at his stables.

They should have given him it back after he served his punishment. Infact they should have given him a Knighthood. The greatest in his field of work that this country has ever produced. Hero to many.

How so?

Most people who knew him say he was very quiet and didn't say much but when he did speak people listened and respected him.

Being an arsehole isn't a crime, we can all be one of those from time to time. Just look how disrespectful you're being towards a guy on the day of his death, some people would say you're being a bit of one.
