Forecasting Competition - Round 1 Part 2 RESULTS
Ok its time for round 1.2.
This one is slighly harder than round 1.1 as we take a trip to Africa. Your task is to create a weather forecast for Sierra Leone for Sunday 22nd June 2008 @ Midday In your forecast you need to predict: - Temperature in celcius - Wind in mph - Weather Here is the observed conditions: Temperature: 31c Wind: 9.2mph Weather: Partly Cloudy In this Round Magic has the most accurate forecast. Points have been added to the leaderboard. Would you like to be part of Round 1.3? Simply U2U me with the subject "I want a go" and you will be registered for the next round, please note that members already competiting will not need to do this, you will be automatically added to the next round Points: 5 points for correct variable forecast 3 points for an extremley close variable forecast 2 points for a close variable forecast Clues: Tue 10 Jun - It looks to be very warm Fri 13 Jun - Around 5-10mm of rain looks to fall through the whole day. Sun 15 Jun- Alot of cloud looks to be around Clues are based on developing trends at the time stated, these may change before the forecast date. you can look at the internet for a forecast but as the competition closes 6 days before the forecast date it wont be great. There might be clues published through the course of the competition so keep an eye on this thead.
The best advice i can give to you is to keep a record of the observed weather conditions and look at patterns and trends, then look at long range forecasts and maps from online weather agencies in order to make your forecast. Also try looking for the June weather averages for the location. This round is alot harder than the first round as it was very easy and everyone gained points. If you are really stuck or need help on reading weather maps and charts then u2u me. Please note i will not help you to produce your forecast just simply aid you getting information in order for you to produce your forecast. |
