Do you find the term \"bitches\" offensive?

Further to a discussion in THIS thread, I thought it would be interesting to see what the general opinion is in the forum.

One of the housemates refers to women as "bitches". Do you find the term offensive?

dennissabre 22-06-2008 09:45 PM

Thank you for mentioning me
I still find it offenive to women.

PrimaryObjective 22-06-2008 09:46 PM

I personally don't find it offensive. The vote is mixed already though. It should be an interesting result.

Scarlett. 22-06-2008 09:46 PM

I think if its used without reason it is offensive

but I sometimes use it in a jokey manner :P when my freind say something to me

xGemmax 22-06-2008 09:50 PM

Yes. Put it this way, if a friend called me that, they would no longer be my friend.

PrimaryObjective 22-06-2008 09:50 PM

Maybe it's because I use it in a joking manner to talk about my friends (male and female) that I don't find it to be offensive.

If I were in the BB house and someone used the term directly at me, then I'd have an issue with it. I think it's one of these things you can say in general, and you can use on your friends, but not on people you don't know very well.

Spike 22-06-2008 09:52 PM

No, I like the term and am always using it.

Scarlett. 22-06-2008 09:53 PM

Aye I agree P.O Box, although I wouldnt say it straight out at my friends

Fom 22-06-2008 09:53 PM

Depends what context if its said offensivly than obviously but if not then no, all my mates call each other bitches. If its just a joke it shouldnt matter.

As a joke I call my girl friends for worse things haha.

Lauren 22-06-2008 09:54 PM

If it was directly to me, then yes. (Unless as a joke).

If it was a general term about women, then no.

Neck and Neck so far

PrimaryObjective 22-06-2008 09:56 PM

I think the housemate in question only uses the term in a general way. I could be wrong, but I don't think he's referred to any of his female housemates as bitches.

Hugo 22-06-2008 10:16 PM

not really but then again im not a woman.

letmein 22-06-2008 10:16 PM

If it's said in the joking sense, then no.

Loukas 22-06-2008 10:18 PM

No i call my friends bitches. Not in an aggressive way more like a William Sleed way. Like "Hey Betch!!" lol

Here is William Sleed using Bitch a a compliment.

GhettoSuperstar 22-06-2008 10:33 PM

Bitch is my middle name, innit.

KingRock 22-06-2008 10:36 PM

I don't find it offensive since I'm neither a woman or a feminist.

However I do find it ****ing retarded as it makes no sense when used as a term of endearment by stupid women. When a man uses it though it pretty much sums up what most women are.

Billy 22-06-2008 10:39 PM

Yeah, I cry whenever it's said

Shaun 22-06-2008 10:39 PM

As someone who uses the C word loosely, no.

andyman 22-06-2008 10:41 PM

hey who stole my bitches and hoes?!:dog:

melanie 22-06-2008 10:58 PM

That word is used so freely all the time, that I don't find it offensive anymore.

Killian 22-06-2008 11:02 PM

Sometimes I use it in a jokey context. Sometimes I talk about a close friend and say to him/her "You're my bitch", you know? They don't find it insulting, as they know I'm only kidding.

But if a friend of mine called me a bitch directly and in a serious manner, I would find it offensive. But the word is thrown around so much nowadays I really don't know what to think of it to be perfectly honest.

AngRemembered 23-06-2008 12:37 AM

The word itself would not offend me, its usually the words with it and the tone its spoken that would.

Anyway how would you get on in a pet shop, would we ask for the little Alex in the window perhaps?

Two things to point out: one, your bringing up "feminist", as it's somehow a bad thing. And two, "when a man uses it... it pretty much sums up what most women are."

Thanks misogynist. Run along now.
