The Old Tennis Thread
We've had precise threads for the grand slams, just thought that there should be a thread for the tennis fans on TiBB to discuss all the tennis worldwide throughout the whole year!
Roger Federer just won his 15th Grand Slam title and his 6th at Wimbledon this year, breaking the record previously set by Pete Sampras (at 14). Next up is the hard court season! More success for the top 4? or is it time for someone else to join the elite four at the top! and Serena Williams has won her 3rd Wimbledon title against her sister Venus to make it her 11th Grand Slam title, will she do enough on the hard courts to clinch the No.1 position held by Safina? I personally want new players to keep coming and improving the quality of tennis! Sad News
Tennis star Montcourt dies at 24 French tennis player Mathieu Montcourt has died unexpectedly at the age of 24. Montcourt, who was ranked 119 in the world, was found dead by his girlfriend in the stairwell of his Paris apartment. The reason for his death is as yet unexplained and an autopsy will be carried out to determine the cause. "Mathieu was an enthusiastic young man, passionate, and extremely appreciated for his kindness and politeness," read a French Tennis Federation statement. In June, Montcourt achieved his highest career ranking of 104 after reaching the second round at the French Open, where he lost to Radek Stepanek of the Czech Republic in four sets. "Mathieu was a promising young player," added Patrice Dominguez, the FFT's technical director. "We are totally devastated. Our first thoughts are with his family." In August 2008, Montcourt was banned for eight weeks and fined £7,420 for betting on matches. The Court of Arbitration for Sport later reduced his ban on appeal from eight to five weeks. |
That is awful sad news. ):
My thoughts are with his family and girlfriend. I watched him play at the french open a few times.. I remember him playing in the second round with Leyton Hewitt a few years ago, 2006? I think. He was a very promising player, and so young.. very sad news. |
So young as well! Would tear any family apart
|

It usually changes every year from Toronto to Montreal and visa versa. But I've seen it on TV before so I am guessing they will show it, it is a Masters event afterall! |
It's in Montreal this year and has been listed in Roger's schedual... but he said he's taking a break for a while.. (Until the US open, to defend his title :D) to be a dad and stuff... :P
I wanted him to be in it... anyway, I don't like watching highlights online.. it annoys me so I was just wondering. I hope it is (: |
