£50+ a spin roulette is played by fellas in suits who can drop £1000, or win £1000 and walk out with a shrug. They're bored, have money to burn, and don't give a ****. They're sticking £300 on a 20 second dog race as well and don't care about that either. They'll just put their roulette money on more dogs. Or "virtual horses" which is, tbqfh, just bloody roulette with a cartoon horse on it.
£2 slots is the one that drags in poor sods who can't afford to lose the money they're sticking in, but have won £200 for their tenner once or twice and now believe its "only a matter of time" until they win big again, so they play every day. Short spin time of a few seconds, flashing lights, pretty pictures, lightning fast risk-reward cycle... It's a pavlovian nightmare
.
We're legally only allowed 4 machines in shop. All 4 are constantly spinning slots 90% of the time. Maybe it's only a matter of time until the gambling opponents catch on to this and pursue a ban, but things will already have moved on. Roulette was a HUGE problem 5 years ago when these campaigns started... It's only just come to anything, and it's about 18 months too late.
