Pretty much everything you've said there is wrong. Democrats, republicans, and the president agreed a deal before this started, then Trump was criticised by Anne Coulter and Sean Hannity so he threw a temper tantrum and reneged on the deal that was already agreed. The shutdown started when republicans held all 3 branches of government, but not even republicans would all vote for an ineffective and costly wall.
Democrats have never been the party of the wall, but some have agreed with it in certain difficult areas. Trump was provided funding for border security in the last budget that still sits untouched, and now because of right wing media he wants more.
