What he's been accused of is horrendous and it was right that he was fired from the movie, however, it had already gone into production and work had been done on it so there's not really any option of withholding payment. It's the same as any other job, really. I could get fired tomorrow but they can't then say "And we're not paying you for this month either!" ... they have to pay for the work that's been done, no matter the reasons for firing. It obviously seems much worse because of the insane sums of money involved, but it's a bit of a slippery slope to make it legal to not pay someone after you fire them.
