I wrote a reply when you asked me specifically but when I hit post the thread was locked and I ain't typing it up again

The gist was; nothing has changed, the story is still developing, and trying to figure it out is still guesswork. Maybe it was all faked, maybe his memory of the event is shakey and he filled in blanks, maybe those guys had something personal against him, did it and made it seem like a race-based attack to cover their tracks, or maybe there's still more to it that we don't know.
The sensible option remains to wait and see before making any assumptions.
