reputation was a great album, it had some great songs and was a clever idea in that Taylor didn't do interviews or public appearances as it was all about her public persona and the reputation she holds. "Fans want songs like..." we get those sorts of songs on the albums, not as a first single release.

If you're talking about those types of songs, reputation had Dancing With Our Hands Tied, Don't Blame Me, Call It What You Want etc.

ME! was never going to reach #1 - it's not a song that would shoot up, it's the same as Shake It Off in the sense that it's catchy and it'll hit top 10 and will stick around for months because of how catchy it is.
