Spoiler: Clearly I misremembered the first conversation, I had it in my head that it was a woman who was killed but that was wrong
The ending was pretty bleak really but maybe an accurate representation of real life. I was particularly annoyed that Rachel decided to stay with Shane, you can just imagine what an empty life waits for her in the future and when her looks fade she'll probably be cast aside for a younger model

Spoiler: I think it was impressive trickery as I thought it was a woman as well, yeah I thought the ending while bleak was probably a fair representation of the world today, like Paula and Olivia back to reading their books while Kai was carted off and Rachel taking the easy option
