Julian Clary gets claws out...
Quote:
Julian's Gay Rant
What's the problem with TV today? That there are too many reality TV shows? That the soap scripts aren't as good as they used to be?
Nope. According to camp as Christmas comedian Julian Clary, it's because there are too many gay people on the box.
Julian burst onto our screens in the 1980s with his unique act that involved big costumes, OTT make-up and double entendres.
He was also one of the first light entertainment stars to be open about his homosexuality.
But now he feels other gay TV stars have borrowed his style and achieved their fame by riding on his sequinned coat tails.
And he's launched a verbal attack that wouldn't sound strange coming from the mouth of Little Britain's 'homosexualist' character Daffyd.
"There are far too many gay people around now," Julian moans in The Sun newspaper.
"I think there needs to be some weeding out. I mean there's no need for Brian Dowling is there?"
The only stars who escape Julian's wrath are Paul O'Grady, AKA Lily Savage, and Graham Norton.
"There is room for the three of us - we've all got our own little niche," claims Clary.
So he doesn't really want to be the only gay in the TV village.
