Without a doubt it was handled less than well. However it does not mean that they were wrong to suspect the parents.
It will be interesting to see how far the McCanns get with the libel case: they might be shooting themselves in the foot by pursuing this, but I guess they have no choice if they want to maintain their story. Oscar Wilde's ill-fated libel action springs to mind!
I was disappointed that there was not more thorough investigation of the DNA allegedly belonging to Madeleine found in the boot of the McCanns rental car. Perhaps some of this aspect will come out in the libel case.
