The first series just had that cracking sequence in the final episode where she exposed them. But there was a lot of padding and unnecessary slow pacing to get there.
In this series, we've got half an episode being pointless because Gemma's going about telling Kate she slept with Simon in the most convoluted yet pointless way ever.
Did she finally have something on Simon? Was a master plan finally being executed? No, Gamma just wanted to say she shagged Simon and Kate's parents were funding their lifestyle. Something we knew in episode 1.
Lots of meandering and padding that is ultimately not needed.
Did she need to do all of that to lure Kate to a hotel? No, she could've just told Kate's parents and been there when she brought the kid round.
A lot of style over substance.
