'More than just pretty faces' – Police Scotland in 'sexist' job ad row
The selfie of the three women in uniform was uploaded on to Facebook yesterday, sparking an immediate fury.
But, last night, the under-fire single force hit back at the criticism claiming that the recruitment message had, in fact, been written by a woman.
The post caused a huge row on social media with many users complaining that Police Scotland was using outdated language with the image being braned “outrag-eous”, “medieval” and “condescending”.
The message on the page of Edinburgh Police Division added: “From SPC [Special Police Constable] to Superintendent, there are opportunities for everyone in the police. Don’t sit and wonder what it would be like, come and join us – we are recruiting!”
However, social media users immediately claimed that the post would not attract women to join the force, claiming instead that it was sexist.
One commentator, David Grant, said: “Ladies and pretty faces all in the one sentence. Woohoo, it’s 1972 again! Maybe want to rethink that headline?”
