I use a contactless card which is good and fast if you spend under £30,just a bit iffy if you lose it anyone can pick it up and use it for £30,so I am thinking of asking the bank for an old style one.

When I was working at Lidl that exact thing happened. A group of kids used contactless and there was obviously no way of me knowing it wasn't their card but fortunately there was an off-duty policeman behind them in the queue who caught onto it!

Yes I think there will be a lot of this going on it was probably better left as it was,it doesn't take that long to pop a pin number in.

That’s my issue too, not just 30 quid either as it can be used it in multiple locations for smaller amounts and it doesn’t flag at the bank

There’s a limit per day

it depends who you bank with or if you set it yourself, it is not automatically limited

for instance from Barclays website

For UK transactions there is no daily limit on contactless payments, however there is a limit of £30 per transaction
and you need to have enough money in your account to cover the cost of your purchase.

Do you have mobile banking?

You can freeze your card through that should it be lost or stolen.

yes I do, but more often than not you don't realise you have lost your card for a few hours or maybe even days, it hasn't happened to me but I know someone who it has happened to, they got the money back from the bank but it took a few weeks to get it back, its a very handy way to pay for things, but security wise it seems a bit daft

Agreed especially after I read that people can get hand held devices that can activate contactless if you have your card in your locket or in say a.phone case and all they have to do is hold the device close enough to your card. On a crowded train where people are crammed together say, they could skim off a fortune

Well, as long as the policy is you get that money back then it's the bank's loss if they wish to keep the feature.

Thats exactly what a friend of mine told me on Sat - her friend somehow dropped hers in a shop and a young kid picked it up and went and bought himself a whole load of sweets and paid using her contacless card ! Very dodgy and i would never want one.

I found a contactless card once a few weeks ago on the bus. I took it with me and I was tempted to have a field day with it. However, like you say it's very dodgy and risky, as I didn't know how much money there was in it.

For all I knew, there could've been £5 on it

Is that the main thing that's dodgy about spending someone else's money

Of course not- I know full well what's dodgy about using someone else's card. My post was just a tongue in cheek response to hijaxers story about his/her friends friend dropping her card and some kid finding it, spending it on sweets, and my similar situation to finding a card and being tempted to use it. Only major difference is I didn't use their card in the end

I'm fully aware of the consequences of using someone else's card without their permission. I don't know why you're taking my post so seriously
