New format twist unveiled...
11 Oct 08

Song for survival
The X Factor results show has always been a tense half hour of top entertainment - but to add to the drama, tonight's viewers will see their favourite format updated with a brand new twist.

For the first time ever, the two bottom-placed contestants will choose an all-time favourite track to perform while the nation registers their final votes. Until this point, contenders have performed the night's rehearsed track again.

The change is proving popular. After all, it's a fabulous opportunity for the contestants to take fate into their very own hands, showing the public exactly what they - and their voices - can do.

Each song will handpicked by the desperate contenders themselves, each believing the track they have chosen will give them the best chance of staying in the show.

Of course, we have no idea yet which contestants will face this final trial in their fight for X Factor survival.

But you can be sure that whoever steps up to the microphone to sing again will put every inch of their heart and soul into a song they know and believe in.

This track will be known as the Song for Survival. The result of the vote is in your hands. So listen to the performances, and then decide. Who will you choose to save?

Can't say I'm a fan of this at all. What made XF different from the likes of Idol was that the judges vote and now that gone.

Amazing idea. It's finally about the contestants, and not the judges

Baaaddd idea. It's a talent show but we all know how some people vote. Women get attached to the men and they really get the most votes..

I can see some talented people getting affected by this.

A shame the judges vote has gone, even if it was generally predictable and drawn out, especially by Louis.

I thought they got the balance right last year though with the "deadlock" situation, meaning the public vote could still come into play if the votes were tied.

Good move though on the different songs - especially as general speaking it's a bad choice of song (from the judges) that puts an act in the bottom two.

I never thought about that
Someone like Daniel might beat Diana or Laura.

I can see it being people like Austin etc I'm not saying he's bad because he isn't....but when it comes down to him being against someone like Alex or Laura, it'll be him who stays.
