Could White Dee be changing channels?
Channel 5 has confirmed that it is developing a new series based on those living on benefits.

Produced by the channel's in-house production company, the Benefits Street-style series is being developed under the title of Living on the Social and will follow the channel's documentary On Benefits and Proud.

The channel - which aired the Big Benefits Row live debate last week - is currently looking for families and individuals to speak about their lives on welfare, though filming has already begun.

Guy Davies, Channel 5's factual commissioning editor told industry magazine Broadcast: "After the success with On Benefits and Proud last year, we immediately started work on a new broader series with a working title Living on the Social.

"We've started filming people's stories, and working closely with them in various locations all over the UK."

Benefits Street became a surprise ratings hit for Channel 4 when it debuted in January and has been renewed for a second series, although the cameras will not return to the now notorious James Turner Street in Birmingham.

The Channel 4 docu-series will end on Monday with a 30-minute programme called Benefits Street: The Last Word, where cast members will talk about the show and Britain’s welfare system.
