Default Who was in the right - Bayleigh or JC?

If you didn’t see it, in last night’s episode, there was a conversation between Bayleigh and JC about derogatory terms because Bayleigh had used the m-word in a conversation about JC’s height. JC told her not to use that word, saying that it would be like referring to a gay person as the f-word or referring to a black person as the n-word. Except he used the actual words, which Bayleigh was offended by.

So tension rose between the two, but who’s side are you on? Or were they both in the wrong? Vote in the poll above please ⬆️

yeah, i referred to it as that, because i didn’t know before watching but apparently it’s proper offensive so i thought it would be best to say m-word rather than the actual one

I’m on Bayleigh’s side - She clearly didn’t know it was an offensive term (I didn’t either) and she apologised for it but JC surely knew that the words he used were offensive

I'm usually the first to argue against the use of derogatory terms but I do think she overreacted. He shouldn't have said it, it's a terrible word... but he was merely comparing it to a derogatory term that she actually called him.

This

He could have said “n-word” but he said the actual word and he knew it was offensive, god knows why its hard for some white people not to use the n word.

Also she didn’t overreact at all, her reaction was normal.

Bayleigh was in the right, however the context JC used the word in was harmless. It was a dumb mistake but never malicious.

Bay could've also explained her points better and not just kinda dismiss JC's as well like she kept accusing him of doing.

But she had a right to be offended and her main point was perfectly valid without all the 'extra' stuff

In the end I think it actually turned out ok from both sides so it was a pretty decent TV moment that wasn't too hard to watch

I'll be glad when rap singers (mainstream music now) get bored of the 'n' word and move on, they actually keep it alive as a term of subjugation, then everybody can move on. The difference with other words of abuse that people are upset by is that people don't use them to describe themselves at all.

I don't think it's that surprising that the term used for JC is offensive. Not being allowed to say a word probably makes it more powerful.

I actually find the terms white and black pretty ridiculous (it's simply not descriptive in reality) and very segregating and limited in allocating people to groups, but it happens to be fashionable. Where exactly is the line drawn between the two?

Kaitlyn was described as a 'stereotypical New York jew' or something along those lines here, I just thought of her as a HG who's angle is all this zen stuff, I never even considered race.

On JC - I always seem to find people who use initials for their name in US shows to be not the best.

In the context in which the word was used, calling him "out of control" was truly pathetic. The way Bayleigh reacted was as if he'd called out to her, hey ******, go get me a drink

Even if we accept that everyone's boundaries are different, we must allow for people to find out where they are. If Bayleigh was truly "offended" just by hearing the word, all she had to do was explain to him that she would much prefer it if he used "the n-word" instead of the full term. In turn, JC could've hit straight back and said "sure, and if you don't mind, I'd much prefer it if you used "the m-word" instead of the full term"..

This argument of one term "weighing" more than the other is quite ridiculous, given that offensive terms are size/race/gender specific. Any term that is more personal to you is obviously the one that will carry most weight.

All the people on Bayleigh's side forgetting that she said the word '******' why can't that be a term only gay people can use? That's right because apparently now we forget about the struggles of gay people in the past and the fact that people are being murdered today for being gay. Just like people are being murdered for being black. They both SHOULD be equal in their weight of offensiveness to both communities. Therefore I voted for them both being in the wrong.

They were both wrong, they both basically went into a pity-off over offending each other, but then both kept continuing to use offensive words towards one another.

Both were pathetic in my eyes.

JC was right. Bay is completely self absorbed and lacks the emapthy to realise that other people are hurt by certain words as much as she pretends that she is hurt by the N word (god, I hate saying 'n word' in this context, but I will to stop people kicking off).

Her entire reasoning of her being allowed to use whatever word she wants, but also being allowed to control the speech of others (despite context and intention) is born of control, not offence.

TBC, I don't even think that she was even personally hurt by it's use, but rather is just intellectually trained to use fake offence to shut others down.

I think JC has been probably actively impacted by the use of the word midget and the like his entire life, because 99.9% of non black people wouldn't even use the N word, let alone to a PoC's face but they would happily use terms like midget as casual reference and slurs both. Of the two probably has the most reason to feel emotionally hurt by a specific term, yet he remained rational and even minded about context.

TL;DR... screw Bayleigh. She is a self infatuated hypocritical over inflated bitch.

TBH though, must say, I do find it entertaining to watch people claw over each other to climb up the progressive stack in the oppression olympics of indentity politics.

JC - he was just saying, when you say the 'M' word, that's like someone calling you the 'N' word, it was a comparison not an insult. She completely overreacted.

Yeah so now I've seen it they were both in the wrong. Bay overreacted and JC should've been more considerate
