Victoria Beckham has been left 'distraught' after her eldest son Brooklyn went through with his wedding to her former Spice Girls colleague Emma Bunton.

Brooklyn, who followed in his father's footsteps by signing up with Manchester United last month, started dating the one-time Baby Spice after a cosy encounter at his eighteenth birthday party in March.

David and Victoria surprised their son with a huge birthday bash at their 'Beckingham Palace' home. Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay, who received his 27th Michelin star for his Vietnam restaurant this week, cooked the party food for celebrities including Sir Elton John, Robbie Williams and Sharon Osbourne.

But Victoria Beckham was disappointed when she could not find Brooklyn as the big event of the night - a reformed Girls Aloud performing together for the first time since their break-up in 2008 - began.

In an exclusive, multi-million pound deal with OK! magazine three months later, the pair admitted that they had snuck away to be together at the party and were now "in love".

The former Baby Spice insisted she had never thought of Brooklyn in any other way than as her friend's son. But she had got sick of her former partner, Jade Jones, refusing to get married to her after 18 years together, adding that when Brooklyn turned 18 she did not see that there was anything wrong with having a toy boy.

Bunton told the magazine: "I know some people may find it strange but I do love him and a 23 year age gap is nothing... just look at Daniel Radcliffe and Helen Mirren together. I know Victoria has reacted badly to it, but I think she's just secretly jealous that our wedding thrones were better than her and David's and she hates the fact that another Spice Girl is now a WAG as well!"

Beckham, who is pregnant with her seventh child in the hope she will finally have a baby girl, refused to attend the wedding ceremony and has locked herself in her LA home to avoid the swarms of paparazzi outside.

But a friend told DS: "Victoria cannot believe that her 18 year old son has married Emma and is now a stepfather to her ten year old son. She has admitted that she was hoping he would marry a Hollywood actress so that she could finally get a break on the big screen. She is absolutely inconsolable."
