They even spoke to him
saying "Please...... bring it down slow" The 29 year old Mechanic/bag worker then said "I guess I will go to jail for life" The Head Office then said "lets not worry about than now" he did another loop then crashed into the island hitting tress. [The pilot - who has not yet been formally named but is addressed as "Rich" in the recordings - says he's "got a lot of people that care about me" and that he was "just a broken guy".] Last edited by arista; 12-08-2018 at 06:25 AM. |

How quickly the F-15's assembled themselves and caught up with him was very impressive... that alone is the story in itself. What's not impressive is that this man and his arrogant "prank" endangered other people's lives and maybe the livelihood of fellow coworkers whose trust he possibly abused to gain access to the cockpit. Those pilots who were following behind him we're not there for a free thrill ride. They were probably were sent out so quickly with the thought it could've been a domestic terror threat.

funny how the fighter jets are right on the scene in the pretty much the middle of nowhere in the US (i know Seattle is a medium sized city, but its pretty out of the way)
but planes are hijacked near NYC on 9/11 and theres no fighter jets to be seen.

I'm curious about this myself though, where they came out of. Seattle being "next to no where", there tends to be bases nearby in areas with less population. Not sure how that all works tbh... might have to ask around here. |

The fighters came from Portland, which is less than 200 miles and pretty quick on a fighter

Its less about it happening, its more about it not happening on 9/11

Sounds more like "spectacular suicide" than a prank to me. He had probably decided to kill himself and wanted to go out in a blaze of glory rather than jumping off a bridge or eating a shotgun shell etc.
No one tries to loop-the-loop a passenger plane and thinks they're likely to survive. They were there so fast BECAUSE of that... The regulations on what happens in these situations were completely rewritten after 9/11. |

The dialogue between air traffic control and him is quite sad, they did their best for him

that's what you get from seeking the danger limits with an airplane, it makes me sad though
