I thought it was a good episode, clumsy in parts (mainly to do with a bunch of english characters knowing so much about Rosa when American History isn't really taught much in the UK) and the villain was woeful but this wasn't an episode in which the villain mattered.
It's a daring episode but overall I thought it was a triumph tbh. |

I think I understand why now.
The old titles they could have a dramatic cut into from an intriguing cold open. With these new ones, they have quite a silent and gradual start so it would look odd smash cutting from a cold open to those. |

But that's two villains we've had out of three episodes vanish/teleport elsewhere. An arc is forming. |

The crap pop song, I'm led to believe, is one of the songs used by the Black Lives Matter campaign.

POW! BLAM!

She was an associate of Dr King, who preached for nonviolence, so they'd probably both be against BLM anyway. Last edited by Oliver_W; 23-10-2018 at 07:49 AM. |

Not really unless you're talking at college/uni level which is deceptive since that would only be available to people opting to do history courses in those subjects. My experience in history at school were of the Vikings, Anglo Saxons, Greeks and Romans and then English history and then I dropped it in year 9 but I know people who went on to do it in Year 10 and 11 just focused on WW2. I don't think American History is ever really covered at the level of history that most students will experience in school.
Like everything I've come to know about US history, it's come from the internet and other sources. I've known of Rosa Parks for years but I can't recall many other UK people knowing of her. |

BLM isn't violent, as ever it's the white people on Fox News that focus on extremes to tar a whole movement because they are scared of black people. Most BLM protests are peaceful and you don't hear of them because the kind of media that often covers them want the protest to erupt into violence so they can do their 'look at these violent black people' sctick

Too glam to give a damn

I'm surprised you think that, Dezzy. I'm certain I learnt a bit about American History throughout school, and I think those who are intentionally not ignorant know who Rosa Parks is. I'm confident enough to suggest that I would've been able to explain who she was at Primary School age. Though, there were a few things I wasn't aware of before watching the show (that she was a seamstress, knew Martin Luther King, etc.)
Anyway, I'm absolutely in love with this series. I think Jodie is absolutely fantastic, and I'm fond of all the companions. I think it's a really nice mix. The cinematography is spectacular, and I've enjoyed all three episodes very much. I haven't been able to sit through a Doctor Who episode since S5 (or the 50th special if you count that), so I'm extremely happy that my love for the show has resurfaced. I think Chibnall and everyone else are doing a really good job, there's a sense of excitement and intrigue with each episode, and I like the fact that there isn't an over-riding need to overcomplicate things like before. I was looking forward to Rosa and it didn't disappoint. Fantastic from start to finish. |

I'd be all for changing the curriculum if it hasn't changed since I was in school. I'd have taken history as an option had it covered more than it did. |

I learned about Rosa Parks in primary school lol. I thought her story was common knowledge but I've seen quite a few people on twitter etc saying they've never heard of her

It's so weird to think that series 10 was getting sub 3m overnight for some episodes and now it's on par with the revival series |

No, UK schools don't cover much American History, but Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks I imagine are two of the biggest figures that at least get a mention. |

"Out of place in Doctor Who" is a meaningless statement as its a show that completely changes its tone, genre and style from one week to the next. I, for one, am glad the show has remembered it's not just about space travel and fighting, but also about time travel. So getting an episode set in the past with the sci-fi/alien aspect toned right down is recapturing an aspect of Doctor Who we haven't seen in a while IMO. |

It's not really the first time Doctor Who has used a real world song either

I'm probably super slow at realising this, but aside from 'The Parting of Ways' all of the regeneration episodes have 'Time' in the title
-The End of Time -Time of the Doctor -Twice Upon a Time
