So is there any point boarding windows? Do they eventually break through or are the windows "secure" once boarded?

Secure once boarded, the windows will break but the boards won't.

I finished Leon's story yesterday. Loved it.

I boarded the one outside the darkroom save spot... then killed the zombie behind it and now he's just permanently hanging there with his arms sticking through. Heh.

Finished this again today on S rank to unlock the Samurai Edge with infinite ammo. Gonna have another play through and really take everything in now I can kill every zombie in sight

I'm on my third playthrough now. I did both characters' normal campaigns first since I wanted to see what they both were like before trying out the second runs and so now I'm playing through Leon's second campaign and I'm just about to go to the lab.

I'll never get S rank and I'm not too fussed about trying because I don't like speedrunning. I prefer the slow and steady approach.

I do like how, in the second campaigns, there's a lot more callbacks to the original RE2 in terms of enemy placements and references and such.

Am I the only one who doesn't find poor Mr X threatening at all? I don't know if it's because of overpaying Resi 4 to death and being overly familiar with some of the game mechanics that still seem to be in place (e.g. simply walking backwards will 90% of the time cause enemies lunging forward to fail to hit of grab you) but Mr X has yet to kill me...

I also think playing this on PC with keyboard and mouse makes some things too easy, e.g. Dogs. They're fast but they die easily, and while I can imagine their speed makes them worse on console, they're just no match for mouse-aiming. I don't think one has managed to get anywhere near me

In fact I've only died once in the game and it was in Leon A just after moving the book cases, 3f balcony main hall, ran up to the corner not paying attention already on yellow health and didn't notice two plain ol' zombies were stood there and they ate me

I never found Mr X himself that threatening, most of my problems with him came from running into corridors crawling with lickers but once you learn the map and know which areas to avoid he's pretty easy to escape.

This is exactly why I did it lol. I played Claire A again immediately after finishing her so I didn't "waste" a playthrough. Now I just have Leon B to finish the game and can go at a lot slower pace now the enemy threat is a lot less, it's also nice just to get some payback on enemies I let off on other runs

Mr X is actually even less threatening with infinite ammo because you just headshot him til he falls to his knee, and 30 seconds is actually ages. You can get to the other side of the building in less.

Also can we talk about how awkward the exchange between Claire and Leon at the gate is? Is it supposed to be incredibly awkward flirting or is it just bad voice acting as a tribute to the early games?

Mr. X is intimidating at first, he's potentially the scariest thing they've ever put in a RE game at first simply because you don't know the rules of how he works. I remember running through the police station to get away from him, almost screaming my head off at the unexpected horde of lickers and hiding in the dark room with my shotgun aimed at the door because I didn't know if Mr. X could enter save rooms or not.

When you know how he works though, it's just a matter of ensuring that you've cleared a route between the lever you need from the west wing to the library and then back to the basement.

I don't think you even particularly need to clear a route though, there aren't many areas where you can't just kite him round a room?

His reappearance in the lab is slightly pointless too since you just bolt straight out the door and over to the west wing, and (as far as I can tell?) he doesn't follow you there and just reappears for the boss fight.

"How you doin' sexy cop what about that crazy helicopter"

"Hey, is that a key in your fancy pocket or are you just pleased to see me?"

But what is really bugging me now is that Claire could BLATANTLY climb over that gate . And they would clearly be much safer / morw efficient working as a team.

Though I guess in the original they actually meet up inside the station really early on and actually CHOOSE to split up

In all seriousness though this is a criticism I have of the game ... From what I remember of the original, the two characters had quite a bit more contact? I'm sure they had radios and kept in touch at key points.

They feel very separate in the remake and I think that is detrimental to the character development... I get that they probably removed the radio contact to make it feel like a more isolated experience, but IMO they should have kept it in.

You can but it's generally a good idea to clear out pathways you'll use often anyway. I always clear out the Library since it's the best place to run him round and the pathways to the Chief's office/ the save room by the basement depending if I'm using Leon or Claire.

By that point I can usually clear out enough enemies without getting myself into a bad position since I'll have a box full of gunpowder and reserve ammo anyway.

I thought the gate scene was cute tbh, yeah it's got logical holes in it but Resident Evil has always been a horror film presented as a game, the protagonists have to make dumb choices.

It's a bit strange how little contact Claire and Leon have throughout the game though, we carry around that Radio that Marvin gives us only for it to never be used again after he calls us back to the main hall that one time.

Just also the fact that it's a police station and you kill a tonne of cop-zombies, all of whom would presumably be carrying a radio...
