Default NL: Father faces suspended jail term for sending 200 euros to jihadi son

The public prosecution department is taking legal action against two people who sent small amounts of money to jihadi relatives in Syria, the Volkskrant said on Thursday.

In the first case, a father who sent his teenage jihadi son €200 to help him pay for food and somewhere to live, faces a suspended jail term of four months for financing terrorism.

Kais S, 47, appeared in court in Arnhem on Wednesday for sending the money to his son who was just 16 when he fled to Syria and is now thought to be dead. ‘Why would I support the people who took my son away?’ he asked the court.

In a second case, Aemed el M has been charged with sending €90 to his brother in Syria. M told judges in Rotterdam the money was to buy things for his brother’s new baby.

‘Whoever supports a combatant is supporting the combat,’ the public prosecution department is quoted as saying by the AD. ‘These fighters often depend on others because it is not easy to earn money in a war economy.’

The courts will rule in two weeks.

like everyone here in my country, our court system is flawed tbh we never give long term jail sentences, even not to murderers (highest what they give is 6 to 8 years)
