Paris, Texas (1984) - 10+++++/10

Omg wow. I'd heard about this movie for years and years and finally got around to watching it tonight. Amazing, basically a road movie with a really heartwarming story. Kind of a slow burner but stick with it it's amazing. The acting and especially cinematography in this are incredible, it even won the Palme d'Or at Cannes in 1984. I cried at the end!

Quote:
A dishevelled man who wanders out of the desert, Travis Henderson seems to have no idea who he is. When a stranger manages to contact his brother, Walt, Travis is awkwardly reunited with his sibling. Travis has been missing for years, and his presence unsettles Walt and his family, which also includes Travis's own son, Hunter. Soon Travis must confront his wife, Jane, and try to put his life back together.

Aladdin

When I first left the cinema, I thought it was decent but the more I think about it, the more I like it a lot.

Will Smith isn't great as the Genie, he veers too much in between being a pale imitation of Robin Williams and being too.... Will Smith-y and not enough Genie. He's decent though, he doesn't ruin the film but the new Jafar is TERRIBLE. He's a bratty character with a very weak actor portraying him and it's just a world away from the original Jafar.

The actors playing Aladdin and Jasmine are fantastic though, Aladdin's actor doesn't have the best singing voice but he is pretty much a live action version of the animated character in pretty much all ways. When he smiles it's like looking at the animated character, it's eerie in a way. Jasmine's actress is really strong too and her character's been completely overhauled in the best ways. She's a very modern Disney princess now and that's great because now she actually has a character arc, she doesn't exist to be a love interest and she's far from a damsel in distress. Jasmine's an improvement over the original in every way. She also has the only new song and it's pretty great.

One thing that surprised me was that this is a very different film to the original and none of the changes are bad at all. The second half of the film is almost a complete departure to the animated version and I think the story has more depth and nuance to it. I really liked the changes overall.

As for the music, I don't think any of the new versions of the classic songs come close to the originals but they are decent takes on the classics. Jasmine's new song is good and fits in perfectly with who she is in this film.

Overall I think it's a really good live action adaptation with a few weak spots that don't dampen the strong parts of the film at all. If you love Disney, you'll probably love this too.

8/10

Aladdin 9/10

I won't be silenced
You can't keep me quiet
Won't tremble when you try it
All I know is I won't go speechless
'Cause I'll breathe
When they try to suffocate me
Don't you underestimate me
'Cause I know that I won't go speechless

Shazam! 8.5/10.

A great lighthearted family superhero flick. Utterly hilarious from start to finish. One of the best from DCEU. Almost came close to snatching the tile from Aquaman as my favourite DCEU film.

Endgame 10/10.

Easily the greatest CBF of all time imo. A spectacular, thrilling, shocking, engaging, gripping, emotional rollercoaster of a ride. The best time I've ever had at the cinema and likely ever will.

Spoiler:

RIP Tony and Natasha.

I Am Mother.

I don't know what to think about it, I felt like I'd seen it before tbh. Wasn't expecting Hilary Swank to be in it, haven't seen her in years.

Godzilla 2 - 7/10
It was very entertaining and had some pretty good acting, nothing Oscar worthy but enjoyable to watch.

...I Am Mother...it felt soul-less/heartless...like an empty shell...I guess emotionless was a huge point of it though...Hilary was gorgeous as always but it wasn’t a movie for me...2/10...

Yeah, it was odd. I loved the idea behind it, it just wasn't executed to its full potential.

I forgot how much I love Hilary Swank, haven't seen her in anything in a long time.

Murder Mystery on Netflix.

Not the best movie ever, but it doesn't pretend to be. One of those movies you just enjoy as background noise. Jennifer was good as always.

Although one of the things I always find funny about these kind of movies, which is unintentional, is when you have Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler having to play people "amazed" by first class lounges and bars on planes etc.

Mowgli;

Seeing as I had watched The Jungle Book remake the day before watching this, I was pretty shocked at how much more.. intense it was? I was expecting it to be a literal carbon copy, but it was a lot darker than I thought it would be, it lacked a bit of comic relief that the remake had and the acting, surprisingly, wasn’t all that great, but still a decent enough movie to watch, not a masterpiece though.

6/10

Honestly I think the last film I watched (in completion) was a cheesy Christmas24 film

It was about a single mum who meats a recently divorced man who ends up becoming great with her kid, but it doesn't work out, but the kid uses her Christmas wish to ask for a dad or something, and the mother and her boyfriend reconcile?

(and the sad thing is, I think there was more than one film with that plot )

Easy Rider (1969) 8.5/10

A classic that changed cinema/American culture as they knew it FOREVER. Counterculture milestone.

The film that made Jack Nicholson a household name.

Absolutely! He looks SO young in this movie it's crazy!

(Yet at the same time looks how he did in the 80's?)

OH Scarface was on ITV3 or 4 the other night, Tony's reminded me.

10/10 like you can't not just love it. Michelle Pfeiffer in this movie too...

The more times I see this movie the more I see clear inspiration from Elvira in Mia Wallace from Pulp Fiction.

Currently doing a Fincher triple bill.

Last night I watched Fight Club, I'm about to watch Zodiac today and hopefully fit in The Social Network today too.

It's ok, but in terms of Gangster/mobster movies, it would struggle to make my top 10.

Great movie. I own this in my DVD collection.

Did you know that it was Kurt Cobain's favourite movie?

Sing - I'm not normally the biggest fan of Musicals, but this Film made me laugh quite a lot, and most of the Drama was actually written well which is unusual in Musicals imo, the only character I weren't very keen on was the Elephant character as her story was just a little too dull for my tastes. My two favourite characters were probably Ash and the Rat character that sung Swing Music (I can't remember his name) overall I'd score the Film 9/10.

Sinister 1 - This Film reminds me so much of The Ring, the Film takes a few minutes to fully understand what kinda Horror Film you're watching, but once it gets into it you're really in for a treat. I personally thought that Ethan Hawke acted the role very well imo, and I personally believe that if he had've delivered that performance in a genre that the Oscars approve of he'd have easily got a nod from them in 2012 imo. The biggest weakness for me in the Film personally was the Ethan Hawke's character and his Wife have no chemistry in their scenes with each other, thankfully they don't have that many scenes.

Maybe it's my bias towards Horror kicking in here but I'd score Sinister 9.5/10.

OK, so I am now about to watch "Zodiac"

I have seen it before, but only once and about 10 years ago.

It's on for 2 and half hours, so you'll just have to get by without me for that time.

I have peanuts, chocolate milkshake and weed for the occasion.
