Like Livia said, our going carbon neutral would do almost nothing in the grand scheme of things.

Though I'd take their protests more seriously if they actually came up with solutions, like pushing for greater use of nuclear energy.
More excuses for inaction.

Also how do you know they are unemployed? Does their job status make them lesser human beings in your eyes? Are their opinions on the environment worth less than yours because you assume they don't have jobs?

Most of the time these protests offer solutions, they are usually protesting for certain actions to be taken but that doesn't make for a good bit of outrage journalism so they're just a bunch of unemployed people sitting around demanding blanket change.

So, I have solar panels and a water meter, I got rid of my oil-fired central heating and went electric. I recycle like a lunatic get really narked if I find some recyclables in the rubbish bin. I'm about 6-7 miles from the nearest village and if I need to go there I'll usually cycle rather than take the car. I save rain water in water buts to water the garden and I reduce my use of plastic wherever I can.

What does everyone else do to help against global warming? I'm sure that those of us who are against the protests don't advocate burning coal and buying plastic. I'm sure we're all aware....

Doing what they are doing isn't the way to go...all they do is make the locals lives a mysery with all the fumes coming out the stuck cars mixing with the baking sunshine...basically they are shortening lives whilst trying to prelong lives...morons.

I bet that have misused plastic... when there are no alternatives.

Fighting to GET those alternatives does not make someone a hypocrite.

It's heartening to see some actual action on the streets it shows we do care about the environment we want to do more and we want the govt to do more . Not just cop out to big business with assurances to cut carrier bags by 2099 all the while cutting subsidies fir solar and electric cars!

Why don't they spread round the local beaches etc and start cleaning them up that at least is helpful.

No response to my questions about why their employment status somehow diminishes their views? Why is that? Why patronise them when they are standing up for something they believe in despite the armchair apathetic masses that are all too pleased to glide into oblivion?

How do you know they don't? How do you know what else they do? You don't, you're just making assumptions because you place minor inconvenience over what is a critical point for our planet. They are saying something you don't want to here and that upsets you.

How is that helpful... Once they've picked up all the single use plastic where do you put it?
The point of the exersise is to stop the production of so much waste initally before it gets on the beach.

It's sad to see that they have caused distress to someone and now this lady,is sad about it,not half as sad as the person trying to get to thier dying father.
https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/uknew...cid=spartandhp

A climate activist fought back tears as she apologised to a man who was unable to reach his dying dad’s bedside due to a demonstration blocking the road.
The grieving man told how he was unable to get to the Bristol Royal Infirmary before his father passed away because Extinction Rebellion protesters were blocking the M32.
He rang his local radio station on Wednesday afternoon to tell his story, which was later played to eco-protester Zoe Jones by a BBC Radio Bristol journalist.

both are helpful, we have to stop producing the stuff, but we also need to ensure the stuff that is produced already is properly disposed of and recycled

Its good they are going to start targeting other cities as well, I think when disruption happens in the London a lot of people who are not inconvenienced are quite happy for it to go ahead, maybe they won't be as happy when their holiday flight is cancelled

It's disgraceful that the man in the link could not get to their dying father due to the roads being blocked.
